Any one running steel or aluminum idler gear?

I've got the Robinson hardened steel idler in my SC10 after ripping the teeth off of the original plastic. Works like a charm.

LRP X-12... 17.5

Has anyone changed rotors in the LRP X-12. I am currently running the 17.5 stock rotor and am looking to upgrade if it is worth it. Also if you are running this same set-up what timing are you running. We run on a small dirt track that goes from sticky mud to dust dirt through the night. Got to love Texas... This motor set-up is in a Factory Team SC10, my current gearing is 21-87. Thanks

Blue springs front and gold rear.

Very high grip carpet

It was probably OEM. I bought the truck used so I don't have any idea of its actual age but we run on a pretty rough track and the truck his quite a bit of power. All that said, I was kinda surprised by it too. There were about 4 teeth that were just gone.

Thanks Pfunk, plenty to get me in the ballpark.

Idler gear takes some abuse and will eventually strip and take out the diff gear too and melt to the top shaft gear sometimes. Not sure how the rr idler will do but i just replace my idler gear every time i refresh the ball diff

I had to replace both idler and top shaft after a winter and summer season of Stock SCT racing (17.5 boosted). Now I am running in Mod with an 8.5 so I have these parts in my spares just in case.

Took my sc10 to the track last night for some practice. They just recently changed the track and the clay hasnt really set yet. It was packed down, but a nice slippy layer of dust on top made it hard to connect.

Geared 25/75, 17.5t boosted 30 degrees (ESC, Dynamic @ 9k rpm) with a 20C 2s lipo and run time of approx 10 mins, i temp'ed at 125F.

Just swapped in a 28 for the 25, dropped in a 50C lipo and going to practice again tomorrow. Might go up on timing 10 degrees depending on temps. Trying to get the temp around 160 after a full heat.

So, so easily! I popped my idler on my 5th race day. Luckily the race shop had one in stock for $3 but still, had to race to remove my trans, replace the gear and pull the shards of it out of the trans, then rebuild it all in time to qualify. That was quite a rush!

I am not sure going to metal is an always-good idea though. I'd rather have the idler fail than the diff, or the main shaft. If one's gotta fail, I'd rather it be the cheapest one.

Lack of maintenance is the main reason ....

Dirt between the gears push the gear mesh out more & more until the idler gear gives up & strips....

This is my SC10 with a new Pro-Line Raptor F150 SVT body on it. Great fit. It will work with other Short Course trucks, but it was obviously aimed at the SC10 first and foremost.

I airbrushed it using Faskolor paints. Metallic purple, metallic black, and various neons. Sealed it underside with black and then Rustoleum "Crystal Clear" spray. Good stuff.

I did the flames free hand on the outside of the body mask with a black fine tip sharpie. Then used liquid mask on the underside. Faux carbon fiber on the rear tubing structure area.

The SC10 truck is stock except for many RPM parts.

I airbrush bodies for extra hobby money for others if you are interested: http://www.indyhobbies.com/Airbrushing.html
