Hey guys, just came form the track. Got there late and registered, yada yada yada, put the truck on the track and this thing is loose. Stock tire/wheel combo running on carpet with jumps with a 17.5 non timing. 40 oil in all shocks, green springs in the back, silver front. It seems like it enters the corner fine, midway it gives out and ass end comes around. What do you guys recommend??? Softer springs in the back and lower on the shock oil???

I think you are too soft in the rear. Your spin outs must be from too much body role and you are loosing side bite. On carpet I always firm up the rear and push the battery forward for front bite.

Battery is all the way forward. Will try to stiffen up the rear. Anyone want to chime in on this???

If rear traction problems are what your having id slide the battery in the rear and I would'nt stiffen the rear id stiff the front up to put more force on the rear tires . maybe loosen the slipper a little not much 1/8th turn at a time don't wanta burn those pads up I've don that before.

Cool, she's got green springs on the rear, I have silver in the pitbox. What do you recommend?? Reds?

For the front yes red. You can also make your rear camber links as long as you can get them . Put the inside link in the inner most hole and the outside link in the outermost hole . Then readjust static camber .

Cool got it. Just went through the whole truck. Turns out that the rear springs were under a whole lot of tension. Re-adjusted the rear collars about 1/2 inch w/out dropping ride height.

As I understand it DuckStang is racing on carpet. Do you have forward traction issues? I bet not. Soft rear suspension and battery rearward improve rear forward traction. What was described was spin out on the exit of curves.

On carpet I would stiffen front and rear. You will want to minimize body roll, lower ride height as much as possible. If you are pushing in the corners you can soften the front to get more steering. You can also play with camber and camber rate. Long rear camber links reduce camber rate which may help the issue but it depends on your starting camber.

I found the Stock SC10 tires aren't too bad. The original losi tires have been the good tires for many in my area.

The best thing it've done with my sc10 to improve handling has been my dx3s and playing with expo .

Thanks for the carpet set-up. It is what I was expecting with red springs in the rear AND the firm sway bar.

DuckStang 10-15-2011 10:20 AM

Thanks for the setup guys. Will try it tomorrow. One thing I will not discount is my driving. I am used to a Slash with a locked rear diff, so I don't know if I was driving it the same as the slash, nipping it to get the rear to slide around or not. Will have a buddy come with me to listen to the truck. Anyone got a setup for a driver mod???

that will stop rear rotation ESCPECIALLY on carpet, unless the traction is really low and hard to come by dont do that, i have heard it is useless to adjust those first but camber, and springs and roll center( adding washers or taking away.)

try silver and take away a washer under the ball stud and stiffer front will help like somebody said, i have tuned my buggy and i had the same problem when i started racing, it could be the tires that make you kick, your expo, slipper etc. but go with what the other guys are using....

mxracer458 10-15-2011 04:21 PM

picked up a set of losi off set hex wheels and some hb beams,i tried them once and those tires have TONS of traction, almost to much,i noticed they seem alittle taller then my rebars

DuckStang 10-15-2011 06:06 PM

Got lucky on ebay. Whole hex conversion for 20 buckeroonies. Question is, what tire is good on carpet that is a stock tire. I will run the 17.5 class and we have to use kit tires. Would the BF Goodrich off of the 4x4 slash be a good carpet tire?? I really love the looks of those tires.

Hi guys, another question on the ball diff, what are common mistakes people are making trying to set them up. I have been playing with mine for a few days now and cannot get it to stop sounding like a chainsaw for atleast 10+ feet in a parking lot. I don't want to crank down the ball diff and the slipper, but even tightening the slipper down it still whines. Besides the sticky on how to build a ball diff are there any other good guides? If I can't get this figured out I am going to swap out the ball diff for the geared diff and just concentrate on the slipper. I do intend on using this for racing, once i can get it set right.
