Cool. I am still running the standard 2.2 tires and wheels but tried a set of VTR's and like them. Just Dont really like some of the tread paterns that are offered.

I really like the 2.4 tires, but I think I am over it. Way too much tire regluing. JC said something about a small "glue catch". maybe that will be enough to keep the sidewalls from tearing so much.

the 2.4 should be less prone to debonding then the 2.2s. I am a huge fan of 1/8 style beads and have had the rubber tear before the glue bond broke. i have found it takes alot less glue with the 2.4's then the old 2.2's. Maybe you are getting the glue layer to thick? Just a thought.

not debonding. Ripping. There is rubber still attached to the wheel. A thin layer of rubber all the way around. It is probably do how much less surface area there is now in the bead.

Believe me they didn't reinvent the wheel here with the 2.4/60mm/Evo type tire/wheel. There are certainly some pros & cons with them and new isn't always better :blush:.

There will certainly be conditions/tracks that one or the other will be the best. That unfortunately adds to the cost and confusion for the shops and racers, but one manufacture pretty much opened the "box" and we had to follow so that we give our customers the choice.

you got that right, getting a box of wheels and tires, and seeing that you picked the wrong style rim for 2 of the 3 style of tires you bought is no fun....

I know guys that are using the new style tire, mounting on the old style rim to run the larger insert and gain traction... So many variables and I thought carrying 40 or 50 pairs of 2wd tires around was bad, now it could be a 100, lol

I really liked the fact that jconcepts hadn't jumped on the band wagon and I had found myself buying more of thier tires this year because of it, but you got to give them what they want.

If you have deep pockets, the 2.4 wheels and tires are great on high bite tracks. My traction rolling dropped off a lot. They seems to be a lot less sidewall flex. The rear tends to slide instead of grabbing and flipping the car. They are very easy to glue up as well. But in high bite conditions, I am having to re-glue every 3-4 runs. Not that re-gluing is hard, just time consuming when doing a bunch of tires. On a side note. I am hoping a tire glue jig comes out like the 8th scale guys have. That thing is sweet and would even assist with re-gluing.

I have seen a lot of the tearing in the side wall of 1/8 tires when running the bigger size rims nowadays. Mainly in my sons 1/8 buggy as he still rides the pipe more, but I get some on my truck tires. I have found that after you glue the tire to the wheel, if you run another bead of glue on the outside where the 2 meet, it helps prevent this. Not a huge amount of glue, but just a nice bead. Doesn't completely cure it, and doesn't look the most appealing when sitting still but works.

But then who cares what it looks like on the bench. Its on the track is where it counts right...:D

yeah, I have run a drop around the outside where the rubber and plastic meet since the 90's. lol. It does help a little. Again, I like the 2.4, but just wanted to make people aware.

George, how are you getting tires off wheels, I have destroyed tires every time.

Soak them in Acetone for a bit. If you use a sealed container, the fumes will begin to break down the glue on the top side as well.

I've had to re glue every run with 2.4.

But the reason I'm posting is that my car has finally started to slip a belt. After so many runs you wouldn't believe it. I may keep running as it's not bad for now...
