When you talk pinion and spur i usually talk in terms of rollout, most of the XRay guys work by whats called the Final Drive Ratio.

You can calculate both of these at gearchart.com
Basically you slect your car from the list and plug in the details and it gives you a little chart.
When working the rollout enter 63mm for the tire diameter.

Ideally you probably want to work with a rollout of around 40-44mm at SMA.

With a TC 4 i think you can use a small spur a 66 but dont quote me on that. Then when you have the chart from gearchart.com you match up and find what pinion you need. Getting a pinion for a rollout of about 42mm would probably be a good starting point then after running with that you can compare your speed relative to the other cars and the equipment in them, ie some cars may be a little quicker anyway if they have all the you beaut stuff.

I beg to differ, run your 540 in good and run a lower roll out. I used to run a roll out of 38 and still have the straight line speed of everyone else. Plus my motor stayed cool too.

Rob,
Start in 540 class first and get a handle on your racing lines and car set up. 19 turn is a big leap for someone who is new.

I run mine with a 45.67 rollout, lol. My motor runs cool and I have plenty of straight line speed and then some.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Ummmm. I just got hit by real car but some reason it hurts less than getting hit by RC car on shin. I did a cool Hollywood style “roll over the bonnet” thingi.
