I'm looking at buying a new charger.

LRP pulsar competition
Duratrax Intellipeak ICE
CDC 6
or Supernova Competition

it seems the Supernova has some great specs for the price, inc 20A discharge.. comes with temp sensor, etc.

just after some thoughts?

I'll be charing 6-cell subC's for my 1/10 off-roaders, and some 6-cell 1050mah 2/3a cells for my 1/18th ... definately discharging, and running in motors.

LRP competition is what your after if you want a motor run in feature, also a very good charger to boot

yeah a mate I race with has the LRP, I use it pretty much ea race meet.

the Supernova competition has motor run in too, and even more features than the LRP... hrmmm

I guess really I'm after some feedback on the supernova competition... even a search on this entire forum didn't really give results. new charger perhaps?

the specs look really impressive, how many beans is it going for and where are you getting it from?

I can only seem to find these for sale from Korean rc sites and the are going for about Won267K (about $268 aussie)

people are praising the duratrax ICE charger like no tommorrow, so i would have a serious look at that charger sometimes having all the features is good but as for a charger you want it to be popular do ensure that it keeps your batteries in good condition!

Yeah pretty new... $260 from a local shop! (i believe)

hey james,

im interested to know what u think of it. It seems to be an upgraded Duratrax ICE charge. If you look closely they both have the same menu system/layout and very similar features. The good thing with the SJ is that its got 20amp discharge(ICE only 10amp), backlit LCD(ICE no back lit), 10-30amp motor run in(ICE 10amp) and comes with temp sensor(ICE doesnt come with one)

Okay, I've probably used it a few times since picking it up last friday from the store.

Yes the software is simular to the ICE...

My LHS reckons SJ invented this software, not duratrax... and that the supernova competition is a more quality product than the duratrax ICE.

but I dont want to start an argument, this is an opinion from my LHS, i havent had the chance to use an ICE very much...

So far so good, I love the unit. very quality feel to it, great backlit screen, nice buttons, fans are great, banana plugs on both sides good, with aligator clip options, temp sensor seems to work very well.

20A discharge is neat... I think this feature alone will bring this unit more sales, of course as well as back-lit screen.

I dont know about others, but I often race at NIGHT with limited lighting in the pit areas. so backlit = good.

I'm still learning all the features. thus far I've cycled a few packs, charged/discharged some packs, learned how to navigate it, and harness the graphs/data etc.

I want to see what it can do with some of my old pratice niCD packs (reflex charging), and also fiddle with 4-step modes, etc.

Interesting, the underside of the unit has four "tapped" brass sockets (threaded) that indicate that this unit bolts onto some other kind of unit! an add-on or something.

It also has a "Reserve" port. (a port with a reserve sticker over the top) which would probably be serial or some kind of computer/data/firmware flash thingo.

For the price (about the same as intellipeak + sensor for intellipeak) I think it's a winner. Great casing, good instructions, good qual leads/plugs, etc.

I'd do a decent review, but I'm by far a reviewer or professional R/C racer. (just a club racer)

set m/vcell to 5 m/vcell temp cut 55 c. note: this is for ib3600"s. this would be more suited to stock or 19t racing.

Got mine for $280 for Albury Hobbie Centre, would have got it from RMS but the Express freight worked out the same.

So far quite impressed.
