tweak, in the sense of working with the car adjustments nam.

i understand your point but at the same time there's been heaps of time sthat i can remember that a newb has "beginners" car that has a eratic handling, and when you have a closer look you find the toe is all wrong, and the ride height can't be adjusted and there's no droop screws. if there are more experienced racers at the track such as yourself, or me there's no reason why we can't help soemone.

i remember trying to help a guy with a thunder tiger electric car, and it was such a crap design you couldn't get to the droop screws and the car as standard had like 1cm ride height!

a ta04 is exactly the same setup options wise as a xray nam, so why not get the xray? better plastics, better build quality and better knowledge support from quick guys.

when i first started racing i had a rs42 and when Tim L was helping me out with setup i remember him bitching about how there was realy nothing to adjust. i didn't understand his complaints back then but i do now. cars might not be so basic now, but the quality difference still exists.

SORRY FOR THE ESSAY!

Thanks for the help guys.

Everyones basicly saying get the best you can afford so you can use it when u move out of the novice class.
I have to race the 540 targa class down here for 28 races so thats one year in the novice class.
If i was to get a more novice chassis to start with then replace it next year would the ta04 be alright?
why i ask is simply if i can get it for $150 its not a great loss of money when i have to replace it next year and this way ill be able to get involved sooner? Or should i just wait and get something better?

Thanks Topher

if that's all you can afford go with the ta04, if you can afford $100 more you can find very good condition second handers on this forum. coxy sold a tc3 with half the tc3 factory worth of spares for $150! keep your eye out for bargains like this. a second hand top of the line electric TC, no matter what brand it is, will generaly go for $250 to $300 if it is stock maybe $350 with a few spares etc.

Default Venom WO

hello
the last time I raced onroad was in 1998 and offroad 2001. Due to my mate's request, i raced once again today. I was not gonna use my display cars so they let me use a TC3. Apparently, it was one of the fastest car in its class in that club. Since I am a S%@T driver to start with, the car handling was bad. 1st race 18laps,2nd 18laps,3rd 19laps and 4th race 20laps.
david tweaked the car for my 3rd and last race, hence, better laps. My point is..TC3 is an excellent car to start with. A step up to entry level Tamiyas even the TA04. A simple ride height adj got me an extra lap and camber adjust another lap.
Having said all that, I will have to go for TA04(being a Tamiya collector) only cos of parts availability and a bit cheaper. Only the shells are ridiculous at $70 to the TC3 $35

got the this TA04 today for being a nice guy....

I still wouldn't recommend getting the TAO4.The battery configuration (stick packs) alone should put you off. What VWO says makes a lot of sense.Think long term get a good car to start and hone your skills from there.

Smile yeah, the stick pack is a let down

i prefer split side by side myself....they go on my older yokomos,B3, and XX4.......but that didnt stop me before when i bought my TA03pro.

unfortunately, i couldnt use saddle packs but i was able to use my side by side packs on all my TA03 with graphite chasis....
