:tire:Hi guys in VTA land we in Bendigo got 10 cars at our last metting from dogde
mustangs and carmaros and cudas and the class is growing next meeting we will have a 67 corvette. We run 6 mins heats and 8 mins finals as they do in the states but the 8 mins is getting looked at . We are having a classic wich will be the RAB bendigo classic and we are having VTA as a class so come an race and enjoy the RAB classic is on the 23th--24th of june see you there. |
Agreed, on 17.5 Blinky with a FDR around 3.5-4 left to right balance and chassis flex play a significant part. Any of the older chassis with Nimh cut outs I was finding to be very inconsistant and prone to oversteer.

Rube, at Castle Hill on Friday nights we're starting to get a VTA class up and running too.
The rules & guidelines are pretty much the same as what you have put in here, mostly relating to car types, weight, motors, esc's, tires, body shells etc. There's nothing set in stone as yet as we are evaluating what people would like within the class but I dare say it'll be similar to what you have put here. Another thought with the VTA class is for the length of time for the races, with pretty much everyone having decent high capacity lipo batteries maybe consider extending the time from 5 mins to 6 mins, maybe even more for a final? Not so long ago I got myself a Dodge Challenger shell but part of the sticker sheet had come loose and was sticking to itself. The rear bumper sticker was trashed along with the rear trim around the tail lights, I was able to carefully rescue the tail light one thankfully. Seeing your paint design on your Dodge gave me a little inspiration on how to do a paint job that looked good without having the rear chrome bumper sticker. Not shown in the pictures is a Hobbyking set of car led's that I picked up for about $5 and installed them in the car which has earned it the nick name of "Sparkles" at the track. Cheers Rob. Yeah look mate the Time thing is really a club decission Id personally love 6 min heats 8 or even 10 min finals but I dont really want to touch that one because lets say Tuesday night racing is pretty pressed as it is trying to get out before midnight.. If you get an extraordinary night and you get those where you may have upto three heats of one class then adding the extra mins can make the whole meeting run way over.. On our track this may be possible for Sunday day meats where its more relaxed etc.. But I hear ya.. With regards to current rules I did say the ones I put up were roughly the ones accepted by most clubs and agree they are not set in stone but I would say for a number of good reasons we should stick to 21.5 any more then you would have to bend the rules into an area where we have seen many times turns to a shit fight... any faster your wheels will become an issue hence you then change the rim tyre rule then there is the issue that faster may mean excluding budget type chassis for higher end that would then exclude some people who would otherwise already have something to throw down and have fum.. Breakages become more it then spirals out.. IMO this should stay a fun class where Joe Blow out there has a chassis that will do with some TLC he can get it on and have fun with the rest.. again my opinion only .. Im just getting fed up with classes that start out as fun then turn into "Well if you dont use that oil this chassis that motor these foams on your tyres see ya later ' .. Love the cuda mate youre a man after my own heart...:nod::nod::nod::D

(Us more mature racers don't have as good reflexes as we used to :D ) As for chassis, I'm using a TA05 that I bought off Nexxus. A couple of weeks ago I ran it in 21.5 TC blinky at the 2nd round of Challenge Cup at Illawarra. After changing the rims/tires & body shell I raced it as a VTA car with very little if any changes to the car. :D Cheers Rob. |

Same with the races on Fri nights, the racing at times is pushed through rather quickly and I can fully understand why as some people don't go home till late after a very long day of work etc. I'm fortunate in a way that I have some free time to help setup and pack away things away for those that do the organising, but not everyone has this liberty.

Rubes and others that run VTA at Tempe
Why don't we try the 6 minute qualifying and 8 minute Final at the race day on Sunday 6th May. Have to agree that making the Tuesday night races any longer will be pushing it. Running race control with the amount of people we have had lately is awkward enough with 5minutes, and it is turning into a late night. I really don't see that anyone will have a problem on the Sundays extending the race times, especially as Matt M and myself are running race control. But, so that everyone knows, we are having a committee meeting on Monday and i will bring it up at committee, think it is fair that they have a voice in this as well. How does everyone feel about it? Also i think that the Sunday VTA racing is possibly the best way to go, as the Tuesday numbers are up and down, and it really is getting to be a late night with all the classes we run at SMA. If there are enough of us at practice on Sunday, we can all have a chat about the VTA format, i can type it up and take any proposals we decide to the meeting on Monday, and feed back through here or via phone. What are your thoughts? |
I would love to race longer times.I would run 10-15 minute races if I could.6 min qualifying and 8 min mains sound great to me also sunday vta works best for me but every second sunday might be offroad rally weather dependent
