WOOHOOO go the VTA thread, thanks rube for the posts ^^^

Bring on Sunday practice at SMA - Gates open at 11am. It is a timed practice day, so will have the laptop, transponders and all the gear there :nod:

RIP Camaro body

The red camaro body is close to "going to god"
after a couple of "incidents" last night, and 3 times on the roof, its cracked up badly, hopefully shoe goo can assist.

One great thing learnt last night, thanks Matt J - dont put new tyres on the front, and leave worn rears on the back. It was funny and at times spectacular, (especially the triple summersault with a half pike).

Georges new body shell survived unscathed and intact, despite the bounty being placed :weird::lol::lol::lol::sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:

Looking forward to Sunday everyone, will have laptop, transponders etc there as it is a timed practice, so im sure that is secret VTA code for -
!!!!Bring on the racing!!!!!

wollow86 04-25-2012 01:10 AM

What type of chassis are you guys using in VTA? Is it the kind of thing where you need to have a relatively modern chassis to be in with a chance, or will basically anything work?

Shoo goo and plasterboard tape or liquid nails and plasterboard tape does wonders.I've repaired lots of bodies and it works well just starts getting too heavy after too many repairs but it's strong

Pretty much anything will work from what I have seen .. of course you always have your usual suspects but some of the boys are using everything from Sakura, Sparrowhawk and TC4 to Xray and Associated... As long as you can gear up to final drives between 3:5 to 2:5 youre OK... Having said that some cars like the Sakura have been known to be harder on front tyre wear but Ill let the owners handle that one rather than myself.. I personally use the Latest Edam E Spirit ... built tough competitive and as yet no parts required.. ;)

I use a 17 odd year old tamiya ta03f so anything can work if you can get the gearing but the associated tc4 club racer would be ideal if you don't have anything. My car is just starting to get set up well enough to be competetive but it's more about the fun than coming first

w00kie 04-25-2012 01:21 AM

Sorry to go against you thee ruben but my speedpassion was only hitting high 40 yesterday with 2.9 for. And I wasn't happy with the punch. So I went back to 3.14 and it's great all round with low 40s. So this is one time I won't tune to temp. I've heard that 3.5 is an ideal fdr for speedpassion. I'll try this out on the weekend.

Thanks for the tip and I might try 1 tooth up first at 3.05 but as I'm using 32 pitch gears 1 tooth either way makes more difference. My gear ratio now is 3.207 and doesn't have enough straight line speed compared to the other cars but I'll try both ratio's on sunday, corner speed and take off is good now though.Which version speed passion motor do you have?

mingnon 04-25-2012 01:36 AM

run with anything that has 4 wheels and moves, was the mantra last night!

2 of the VTA's (mine and Matt J's) both had unplanned pit stops after we drove the wheels off our cars (chuckle), that or we forgot to do the wheel nuts up enough, i suspect it is the former as we wouldnt be that silly to do the latter would we :sneaky:

I was running a sakura zero with all the bling (solid front, aluminium bits n bobs), a set of fronts would be lucky to last 2 meetings. Tried everything, had the softest springs available but alas no luck.

A couple run silver cans and they work well, doesnt seem to matter if you have a brushless or not, especially when its spinning on its roof

Im going to bring camera down and get some pics of all the cars sunday

Would HPI Part 7495 qualify as a VTA Body?

I have a couple of new bodys to paint up (68 and 69 Camaro and 77 Trans Am) and am looking for ideas paint wise, everyone in VTA locally seems to have gone red, I had been using the Parma Cuda Body and it handled ok (A LOT better than the J71) but looks like s#it!

Local VTA is 17.5 Blinky, no FDR limits, 1500 gram limit.

I have a full list of bodies on page 1 of the thread Nex.. The body you refer to is a GT not a Trans Am body these cars do not qualify as a VTA. Our track as per similar VTA rules in the US are 21.5 in the US they actually run 25.5 but these are not available here. Parma is also on the list on page 1 listed as per VTA rules.. hope this helps..

On a personal note it would be good to see clubs adopt a uniform rule set that closely resembles the US so that we can all cross participate at any club and all be on a fair and equal playing field.. In the US and several other countries the class has taken off due to the fact that the class is uniform cheap and a great fun class..

Here is the Body list again for anyone that hasnt trawled through the first couple of pages...

I agree that a national set of rules for VTA in Australia would be great, the track I run at is an ex Nitro track so it's quite large (had the Nats there last yr) so to run a 21.5 there would probably result in many of us falling asleep (but if a natural rule set was adopted and we followed suit I'd gladly change over), unlikely you'd ever have to let off the throttle. That said on 17.5 tyre wear is much more pronounced, a set of fronts will last you maybe 2-3 club days.
