This may sound like a stupid question, and obviously the "exhaust coolers" help cool the exhaust gasses before they go back into the tank. What effect does this have on the performance of the engine?

Somebody will be able to explain it all in more technical terms I'm sure, but basically the exhaust gases entering the tank for pressurisation are very hot. These hot gases heat up the fuel in the tank. The exhaust gas cooler helps to cool the incoming gases a little so the fuel doesn't get so hot and start to evapourate off in the tank. Cooler fuel = slightly better performnace, and less evapouration of fuel = slightly better run times. That's it in nutshell. I haven't seen any test results to show how effective these coolers are in off-road racing, but I hear they do make some difference to run times in on-road cars, so I don't see why the off-roaders should be any different - plus they look bling and racy, so that's reason enough to run one
