The charcoal case 3D has a slot to access the crystal and a ball bearing instead of a bushing for the steering wheel. It was a running change implimented about a year ago.

Well, I guess you can add me to the list of people who have had their Lynx 3D case crack! I was messing around with the programs when I thought about this thread and decided to give my transmitter the once over. I had check it before, back when this thread was first started, but didn't see anything. But now, there is a very noticable crack that starts at the steering column and is spreading down the case.

I don't know what caused it. I haven't dropped the transmitter and I only drive with two fingers on the wheel, so I haven't been over stressing the case while I'm turning.

Heres a pick of the crack. Look just to the left of the steering wheel, you'll see it. That small crack you see, spreads all the way up behind the steering wheel! You'll aslo see the path that it seems to be taking. I guess I'll keep going with it until I have to replace the case. I've done my best to convince others of how good a transmitter this is, so I must say this is quite disappointing.

Hello!

I bought a Lynx 3D on the web, and guess what, i have had the Lynx for 3 weeks now and not noticing anything wrong. UNTIL I see this post. My Lynx actually have 3 cracks like that! I will get some pictures out if wanted by you.

The radio has never been used, just tested at home in the livingroom and adjusting stuff!!

It is not a problem now, but I guess it will be.

What shall I do? I live in Norway, so I cannot send it to Hitec...

Paal,
Norway

Sorry to hear about all of the new finds. On the plus note Hitec replaced mine plus 2 other racer freinds. On the draw back I had to send the radio in, and it took 2 weeks before I got it back thus missing a couple races.

Good luck guys.

The question is though, if I take the time to send in my radio to get the case replaced, will it crack again.

I would seem that since they can't say why the case is cracking now, that they wouldn't be able to say it wont happen again.

I hate to say this but the chances are very good that it will crack again, mine did =( I got sick of messing with it and sold it as a cracked case radio, I took a hit on it and will of learned my lesson.

Well thats certainly not good to hear.

Where are the Hitech guys at, to chime in on this subject. Are we doomed to just race with a cracked radio or what? Is there at least anything I can do to keep it from spreading?

CA the cracks, one thing that happened to (2) of my freinds while racing the cracks allowed the steering stop to break out thus allowing the wheel to turn 180. Not fun. I went to a KO radio and no more problems.

I thought about using CA, but CA can actually make some plastics weak and brittle. And its obvious that this plastic isn't that great to begin with!

Yeah, I could switch brands, but I like the 'no crystals' set up I'm running now. I guess I could always switch to a Futaba 3PJ and just use my Spectra module in it.

Its sad that I even have to consider this. The moment they found out people's cases were cracking, they should have switched to another plastic and offered to replace the cases of people who were effected by this defect.

I'm not sure why the cases were cracking but we have addressed the issue and they have changed the plastic so the new radios should not have that problem.

Be aware that Hitec will repair or replace the radio at no charge as needed. Here's the info: http://www.hitecrcd.com/Support/service_and_repair.htm

Thanks for the reply Mike, It is good to hear that Hitec is going to replace the cases. I have used Hitec exclusively in my airplanes, and have bunch of Hitec stuff in my cars.

Mike: Two questions

1. When you say the "new radios", how new are you talking about. I got my radio in March of this year and it has the 'new' charcoal color case, so I thought that it was pretty new.

2. If the problem is being addressed, then how can people be getting their radios back with new cases, and having the same problem? Was that before you all switched to new plastic?

But, if you say that you guys have corrected the problem and switched to a new plastic, then I guess I'll trust that. I'll have to find a time to send my radio in. I'm not a big fan of carpet racing, so I guess missing a few races because of a two week turn around time wont be so bad.
