Well I finally got around to making myself a new transmitter pack. I ended up using Rayovak cells because they were the cheapest I could find locally without having to mail order. They worked out fine though and the pack is working well.

Its a jump of 1000mah from the stock 600mah pack to my new 1600mah pack! Plus its a switch from NiCD, to the memory-free NiMH cells!

The stock pack may have made it through a race day fine without dumping, but now I have that extra piece of mind knowing that theres no chance that my radio will quit on me.

Gary,

One of the tracks that I race at is run by an idiot. They built a steel drivers stand. I am getting some glitches when I am on it, and my car is in pit row right below it. The car works fine on the track, but I have problems getting down pit road. Is there anything that I can do to help fix this. I am running a Lynx 3D, and 5945 servos. I am getting hits on both servos, so I know that it is not a servo problem.

Matthew Bailey:
Do you hold your radio straight up and down when you drive?
What Rx are you running?

I had mine make it through about 3 race days. I forgot to charge it from the race before, and had two races in the weekend, it finally started beeping during the last heat, then again during the main, when the tone went off. Needless to say, it finally dumped when i got it home and turned it on, but it was good the whole time. I caught slight glitches at the far side of the track twards the end of the main, but it held steady.

I'll stick with the stock TX pack

TSR6: the price of the cells was really the only cost I had to build the pack, so I consider it a good investment.

My radio dumped on me the first time I tried practicing with it.(I don't think I left it on the slow charger long enough) In any case, I watched it go from 10.8v, down to beeping, in just over an hour. I wasn't happy!(It was on almost constantly because I had three different cars I was practicing with)

So I decided then that I didn't want to take a chance on race days. Especially when I race on Sat. night, then again on Sun morning, and I don't feel like recharging the radio, y'know.

So like I said, its a matter of peice of mind.

another thing to remember is that you can fast charge these at 1A........

The 1600mAh AA's are nice also.....Once the 1600 NiMH start to drop voltage, they drop fast, where as the NiCad's tend to have more of a flat discharge curve.

I don't hold the radio straight up and down. It points out away from my body at about a 45 degree angle.

As for the receiver, I tried about 3 different ones I don't run the DCX, because it is too large. I tried just about every trick I know. All of them had the same problem. As soon as I got the transmitter away from the driver's stand, then the twitching went away.

????

"45 degree angle" is good, the further out the car is, you want it closer to 90 though.

Do others have the same issue?

Most drivers stands I've been on where at least partial metal. It can do some funny stuff to a signal.....But, I've had no issues.

The stand doesn't happen to have any type of lights on it does it?

Ok Matt, I need a little info from ya. What Rx's are you using? What car are you driving? Does this happen no matter where you stand on the driver's stand? What frequencies have you tried? Lets start there and I'l ask some more as we go. TTYL.

Most drivers stands I have been on have been made of wood. That material cetainly wont cause any interference!

It doesn't matter where I am at on the stand. There are no lights, but there is a P.A. system for them to announce who the leaders are and so forth. My normal receivers are made by a company called ACT from England. I also tried a Futaba, and a Ko Propo. I have 3 different crystal sets, all on the 40 Mhz band. I am running all of this in my Mugen buggy. I tried the normal stuff, different crystal and the like. The antenna is not twisted or touching anything metal. I ran through all the normal stuff that could be causing the glitching, but the only thing that I found was that as soon as I walked away from the stand, it went away.

There are some other people that get hits at this track too. None are as extreme as mine, but there are others with problems too.
