Heres a look at the cord going into the XXtra. Its just like it goes into my other two Receivers(all of which use standard Futaba wiring sequence). As you can see the red is going into the signal slot and the black goes to the ground.

All the XXtra manual says is that "if you don't have control of the servos when the DSC cord is connected to the transmitter and the receiver, reverse wiring sequence in the DSC cord input plug plastic and try again." Its sounds crazy, but I guess I'll try it and see how it turns out.

Well go figure, what the Novak manual said actually worked. I simply reversed the wiring so that the black is in the signal slot and the red is in the ground, and it works perfectly. Cooky, but it works.

I wonder why it works differently for the XXtra compared to my XXL? Oh, well. At least it works.

Unhappy

Ok I have a problem with my 3D with novak XXtra receiver. This past weekend at a trophy race I thought my speed control blew up, but after doing some other checking with other radios I have found it to be either the radio or receiver. What happens is when I turn on the radio and esc (TC2) I get full speed and when i try to reprogram nothing. Steering works fine. It's like there is no signal being sent. The worst part is I practiced with it Sunday morning before the last qualifiers and it was fine and when I went up for my heat there it was going full speed and now I can't get it to reprogram. When I tried the same esc on another radio it works fine. Any idea what may be the problem. I've only had the radio for 3 weeks. Thanks, Doug Martin

Doug, what needs to be done is to try another Rx. I could send one to Ren for you to try out. It'll be a DCX and I'll send a Xtal up with it. Would that be alright? It sounds like a Rx issue, like its making intermittent contact somehow. Even Novak has had a bad piece of gear every now and then. TTYL.

xxxs69: Yes, the Xxtra would need to be sent to Novak for repair.

Try swapping ch. 1 & 2 and see what happens.....

Hope this helps...

Did the throtle on the radio turn the servo?
Did the wheel make the ESC act the same?

Try another Rx if possible. (DCX)

If that fixes the issue, it's a problem with the Novak Rx....

Tres, I tried every thing I could think of so i will try the DCX and see what happens. I hope it's not the radio!!I don't think it is because the the servo works plugged in either way 1&2. thanks for the help. Doug

Doug, if the servo works in either channel, the probelm is not the radio or Rx, its the speed control. If you get the servo to move in channel 2 with the trigger, your speedo is gone. Do you have another speedo to check with? From what you have said the speedo won't program with either channel. I'll check back in a bit.

Thumbs down

Gary then I'm stumped because the same esc works fine with another radio. Could it be something I've done to the 3D, reversed a channel (which I did check) but did not find anything different. I was running 2 models. 1 for stock and 1 for mod. When it happened i was on mod profile. I even switched it to stock but same thing. FULL SPEED....

I had something similar one time with a Novak speedo. It wouldn't work, but it worked in another car. i finally figured out, that it was a combination of a digital servo, and Novak receiver, and Novak speedo. Every item worked fine alone, but those three together just wouldn't work. I sent all of the item to the manufacturer, and they all sent them back and said they worked fine. The items just didn't work together. Something about the three items together caused massive glitching.

Ok, Ren is comming to Calgary this weekend so I'll get him a DCX for you to try out and see if that cures the problem. Get in touch with him when he gets back and he'll have it for you at the store. I'll get it back from you when I see you next. Will you be coming down for our off-road race on the july long?? TTYL.

Doug, giving the DCX to Ren tonite. It has a channel 72 Xtal in it. This is the one out of my XXX, so I'll need it back soon(2 weeks). If this doesn't help the problem let me know. Check with Ren on monday for it. I also threw in a couple of sticker sheets for ya!! Later.
