Yep, I used to run my 104w on silvercan and a 3cell lipo. By far the quickest rc car out of the group of the community and the overall cheapest. But it took work (and skill) to make it drivable. Sadly i have just one video of it and its from before i learned how to drive it/tweaked aero. Ill admit the camera doesnt give it justice. This thing would buss faster than you could adjust to the speed.

Youd be surprised, Ive flipped violently at top speed from hitting a ditch and had but scratches on the underbody and lost 1 body pin.

Hey Guys.
i have couple of question for the revival of my current car and the investment for future car.

1. I recently burnt esc on my f104x1. stock setup & gearing. hpi drift master 17t motor with traxxas xl-2.5 esc. it was doing fine so far. esc occasionally got hot and cut off. but it gor working momentarily. then the car jumped onto short grass by accident ad i pulled the trigger once. thats when i started seeing smoke out of the car. no visual damage but it was totally dead. is this because of the motor? If so, what would be a good replacement? I'm using ni-mh battery and I'd like to keep the budget under 60.

2. I want to get a set of motor & esc for f104w gp. was looking at speed passion because price was reasonable for me and i can play with setting using program card.
is there anything else i should anticipate with this combo like getting hot?

This question may have been asked before, but I couldn't find it in the last 20 or so pages....What do you think is best F1 chassis for someone entering the class, running on asphalt with rubber tires? (previous TC and 1/12th experience). Guys at my local track are running the various Tamiyas and the FGX and I know there's discussion about other cars like the new Serpent being released soon. What are the pros and cons of the various F1 cars on the market? Thanks in advance

The sky is pretty much the limit these days. 10 years ago or so we've had one officially clocked (it was a speed record event) at 100+ kph. This was with a fairly hefty brushed modified, on a cycle oval, so with a limited straight before the speed trap. We managed 92 kph in the pouring rain the year before.
I'm sure that with modern technology, much higher speeds are possible.

I agree. That said, hitting a steel post shortly after the speedtrap (94 kph) does break things. Unless the chassis plate gets torn apart, damage is usually minor and easy to fix.

For entry level I'd think a Tamiya. fairly easy to set up, and fairly easy to get setup information about. I feel that the 3racing cars require enough investment to make them go that the price advantage over Tamiya is lost. Most other options are variations on the Tamiya cars, or actually addon sets for them. Some tracks will not allow the pan car front end like the TOP and current Corally.

I think the Serpent is going to make things interesting, but it's not out yet. Also, I don't run on rubber myself, so I can't say if a car that will work on foam will also work on rubber.

I agree, I'm amazed at the (unintentional) abuse my car F104 takes and it has very little damage. I'm running the McLaren body and thats been flipped end over end 3 times and rolled numerous times at the end of a long straight, apart from a few scratches and a loose wing (just retighten the screws) the car is pretty strong.

LRP QC3 is small and is a fairly high-end competition brushed ESC. Can be had for 60 euros or so these days.

Yes. From the manual "LiPo batteries can be used without worrying about deep discharging the
battery. The speed-control automatically detects when a LiPo battery is used and shuts off the motor
function before a critical low voltage for the LiPo battery is reached."

This statement is simply not true and is an opinion. Buy the right tires and high speed gear set for the FGX and you are good out of the box. Pick up a couple more tuning options and go even faster around the corners. And at this point, the FGX is still less expensive than a stock F104. Mind you, not the X1 or Pro variants, but those cars are expensive to start with.
