I've never opened my Novak 17.5 can. It is one with a yellow timing ring. Can anyone tell me what the timing is set at from the factory?

Novak claims the latest motors have been coming with 25 degrees of timing. The fact that they are not marked on the can makes it incredibly hard to accurately set timing and boost.

So if I understand correctly that the total timing, mechanical + boost, should be around 30, I should only be setting my boost to 5, correct? But what fun would that be?

No, that is not true in the least. Read the previous couple of posts about it being difficult to determine the mechanical timing on a Novak motor, but there's no incompatibility with Tekin ESCs.

I'm asking on behalf of a friend of mine....

His question was, should he maxed out the timing capability on the esc itself or does he needs to advanced the timing on the motor too to get the amount of power he wants?

What more can he do to get the extra "oommpphh" from his stock 11.5 motor ?

I have not tried advancing the timing on the motor itself coz I'm not using Tekin RS esc but just asking on behalf of a friend...

Thnx in advance

Tekin 17.5
4.3 FDR, 12 motor timing, 13 Boost, MAX turbo.

Tekin 13.5
5.3 FDR, 10 motor timing, 15 Boost, MAX turbo.

It's well worth the wait guys, say bye bye to the SPX on the straight!
What type of car are those setting for?

Same story. The GTB and RS will both run any modern sensored brushless motor.

I think I read in Novak's documentation somewhere that you are not supposed to use their motors with any speed control that is capable of adjustable timing. I believe this is pretty much a warranty disclaimer of some sort. The motor works fine. I'm running my RS Pro with a Novak 17.5 spec motor and so far haven't had any issues.

Anyone know if the 198 version works with 1 cell lipo without a booster or rx pack? I'm trying to avoid buying stuff I don't need now or won't need in the near future.

199 is a pretty big step. It's going to take a little time to figure things out more. It's a huge change on the straights (just keeps pulling).

Just wish it would quit raining at Nats.
