Traction is increasing at our new track and the fine, slippery dust layer is going away. Clay compounds are being run now and the tires are starting to squeal in corners. Grip shouldn't be a problem anymore so my MM3 setup will probably be fine after all. I'd still prefer loose, loamy dirt.

A well built 4 gear transmission will spin just as free as a 3 gear transmission. The only reason a 3 gear transmission should be used is as a tuning option. This option has been available on the DEX210 since the day it was released. There are very few three gear transmission set ups. I think this is for a good reason. XFactory pioneered the 4 gear transmission. It started with Brian Kinwald looking for more rear traction and a more natural feel with his car.

P.S. It takes me 2 days to build a transmission but the results are amazing.

I don't think there's anything natural feeling about a 4 gear setup. In fact I find the opposite true. 3 gear is so much more neutral. 4 gear is a compromise solution to a problem that wasn't properly identified at the time. That compromise has become the standard.

What was the miss identify problem? I was told that it had to do with weight shift and inertia from the motor. Is this not correct?

Fred is right the 4 gear mid motor has a lot of weight transfer it becomes to twitchy and inconstant at times I felt. The 3 gear mid motor for sure feels more natural all around .

I'm more used to rear motor on 2wd but the 3 gear mid motor felt similar but better and constant .

Hey all, I've always struggled w/ the whole spur/pinion thing. Normally I run an 18 or 19 tooth pinion w/ the stock spur that comes w/ most kits which are around 87 tooth. What are your current set-ups? Thanks!

What kind of motor are you running? 18 or 19 seems a little small. I don't usually go smaller than 20 or 21, and I run a 7.5T and sometimes a 6.5T. Are you running a 17T?

Does anyone know for sure if this would be the right block to do HRC on the Type B chassis?

I already have the exotek quick change so I figured I'd keep the color scheme and save a little over the Durango HRC block.

That block gives you an extra .5 degree of rear toe. This block doesn't. Both are HRC for a type B chassis. http://www.exotekracing.com/dex-desc...hanger-type-b/

Mid
3 gear is more neutral in Mid Motor.
4 gear has more weight transfer and std in most mid motor cars.

Rear
3 gear has more weight transfer in rear motor which is the standard in most RM cars.
4 gear is more neutral in Rear Motor. If you don't flip the motor to the proper side in RM4 and have to reverse the motor direction via ESC, its not the same thing - the inertia is different.

Dino, how many times are you going to keep saying that? You are 175,000% WRONG!
4 gear always behaves like 4 gear in MM or RM. 3 gear always behaves like 3 gear in MM or RM. 4 gear ALWAYS transfers more weight. 3 gear ALWAYs feels more neutral. RM or MM is 100% irrelevant!!!
How many more times do I have to repeat this???????????

I tested out the Mid motor 3 gear tell you what i like that its much easier to drive than the 4 gear mid motor . Not nearly all the weight transfer compared to the 4 gear mid motor and less twichy.

Steering wasn't bad .

However when the grip is lower it needs some small tuning.

Im running the 3 gear mid motor with the mod motor.

Yup. That's solely from a lack of weight on the rear wheels.
