dtm, do you have this problem with both shocktowers or only with one. Also I noticed they have one more adjusting hole but are they also thicker than the old carbon shocktowers?

Barry- The front is slightly better..you can go down to 5-6mm ride height

I installed some Serpent front springs on the car now which are about 4mm shorter than the Tamiya ones. Hope these work...

The SSG shock towers are thicker than the original carbon, but they are still more flexible due to the SSG material!

Oh yes...the extra hole allow the shocks to stand up more vertical....not much use for the back if you are having ride height problems already!!

Holy cow! You're using Serpent springs? I hope you have a set of orange or white. I think those will be way too hard unless you're running foams on carpet. The fronts are progressive to boot! Good luck.

The Serpent whites are a little softer than the Tamiya Yellows and the Serpent Yellows are slightly harder than the Tamiya whites...I'm only using the Serpent fronts because they are shorter.

Yes, but I feel better using the plastic insert as it centers the shock body inside the springs. This should prevent the sping from rubbing against the shock body.

Regarding the Spring length problem that DTM highlighted, has Tamiya actually resolved this? Quite weird that Tamiya makes a mistake like this....

Default shock position

hi Guys! Have you noticed that we can't position the front shock in an upright position. Well it seems that my other cars handle better with the shocks almost standing up and I figured out how to do it in my 04-R.

and have you also noticed that the rear shock tower flexes, and the front seems to be more solid than the rear so why not use the front tower at the rear?

Interesting comment about the front tower at the back! I found that the top of the gearbox does most of the flexing in the rear...that is with the normal graphite towers...with SSG it is definately the SSG that does the flexing!

The Serpent springs has solved my problem with ride height...yellows up front whites in the back. The car runs even better now (solved an on power understeer problem)....but that may be because I am "forcing" more caster to the front C hubs by running a shorter support turnbuckle!

Looking at the 2 carbon to SSG the towers are completely different in gearbox to shock location heights. Something in the TRF is lower in the gearboxes or hinge locations this would be the only thing I could think of to make the difference. The parts were not meant to interchange?

Difuser- Nop..the TRF will run into the same problem. If you come across one..check to see if they are using the inner holes on the A arms to mount the shock! The guy running the TRF on my local track was also running almost 7mm ride height....I guess thats the price you pay not to scracth the chassis!!

One of the guys going to Reedy this weekend is going to run the car he knows it alot better than his EVO.

I'll take a look at it and see if I can find anything not sure why they would raise the car so much.

Scratches you would cringe if you saw the bottom of my EVO it looks like hell. My 04 's look the same I'm not bottoming out I am just clearancing the chassis one bit at a time(hah)

I noticed something when I was browsing at Rainbowten. In the R/C News Section, I saw there new TRF Short Damper Springs rated in soft, medium and hard that are supposed to be released by Tamiya on 1st of June. Anyone thinks that this is the missing piece to the Great 04 SSG Ride Height Mystery?
