Thanks guys. really dont care about the wheels. but keeping the rubber and foam would be good.

Next qustions. whats the best tire prep to use for low grip asphalt. i got soft rear tires and med fronts.. a good base setup would be nice. this is not the pro 104 but i did upgrade to a trf center shock 3hole piston with 35wt oil and a white spring. it does have soft t plate in it. the track i run at is farly bumpy in the center. running 21.5 brushless with a full size 5300mah lipo.

Are you set on running the 104 tires?
After experimenting with many (name it and I probably have it) tire additives on the Tamiya track, none seem to work as well as just cleaning them before each run with Simple Green.
I recently used tire warmers on the rear and liked that although by the time it was teched and on the track it was effort wasted but the practices were positive.
I would also go to much lighter oil, I use 20wt and a much softer spring, I use the gold one.
Let that rear pod and T bar/plate be as loose as possible with out being too sloppy. Minimum pressure on the discs, I prefer dry discs for the most rear traction.
Rear ride height lower than the front, motorboat style.
Push into the corners but be stuck coming out.

Now that our latest TCS race is done I'm gonna go with an F104W config.
That uses the F103 front end and wheels/tires.
I'll be thrashing rubber and foam setups for our UF1 series coming up.

Tim,
I'm using FX-II with good success (baking in with warmers). Pop back 2 pages and review my setup on Post# 4269. If the track is that slippery, then like others said, put the softest spring you can find and lighter shock oil then 35wt. There is a "High Traction" T plate which will provide more rear grip then the Soft plate.

Surprised to hear that you like the sauce on the Tamiya F1 tires.
Also, you getting away with running Medium/Kit tires front and rear?

I was dialed using Buggy Grip on B3 tires for the FF03 FWD class but had no luck with anything on the F1 option soft rears.
May be worth another try when the time comes again.

Track conditions and tire selection mean everything so just gotta test stuff out as usual.

Tires & the correct diff tension is 85% of F1 car setup imo

I set 4 diff tensions for other ppl last race meeting cos there car had no rear grip and it was mainly because they set the tension was too tight... hence those ppl probably didn't need to run the soft option rubbers

True, spools only work on rear wheel drive cars in drag racing.

Slipping diffs also kill performance not to mention the diff parts tho.

Fine line there.

It all depends on the conditions and the driver...a very tight diff can help in some low traction conditions while a very loose diff can hurt. A tight diff will push off throttle so if you have someone who is good with the throttle finger and still needs a bit of grip tightening the diff can help. A loose diff can help with the heavy throttle finger but the car will have a tendency to diff out in the corners.

I took a chance and did the acetone/paint can trick on a set of F103 rim/foam combo and those rims held up to the acetone.
This was one pair of black rims/tires and one pair of gold rims/tires.

So I guess I won't be buying new rims for the foam season.

Reminder tho, you will destroy the F104 rims for the rubber tires.
I don't know about the F104 rims for foams tho.

I run a real soft setup, 25wt oil and soft rubber f/r and soft springs in the front.

The biggest problem is the Tamiya rubber tires pick up all the carpet fuzz and crap, and then the tires loose traction. It seems like this gets better if you use tires that have been run on asphalt, but it never seems to go away 100%. Some tracks are worse than others as well.
