Am I correct that there is no universal assembly kit for the 44mm universals? We have to piece them together??

Default swing shaft

i have tb-03 and tb-03d. i'm going to put spools in front. which swing shaft do i need? tb-03 manual has 46mm, and tb-03d manual has 44mm. when using one-way or spool, tb-03d manual has 42mm.
do i need to put 44mm for tb-03, and 42mm for tb-03d if i use spool?

also tb-03 use 2 x 1a in front, 1xa, and 1d in rear suspension mount
tb-03d use 2 x 1xd in front , 1xd, and 1a in rear
both have 0' in front toe angle and 2.5' in rear
any diffrence in those suspension mount, if so is that why they have diffrent swing shaft legth.

for the TB-03 use 44mm for the spool. i dont have a "D" so i cant help you there.

you might need to use the 46mm with the one way since the cups are shorter than the ones on the spool.

Use 3x12 screws on the suspension mounts that are flipped over (if you use the aluminum ones) and pay close attention to the amount of shims you use for the drive train. I ended up removing a majority of the shims to keep the drivetrain free.

How many shims are you using in the drivetrain? I need some helpful hints.

shim it according to the manual. if its too tight... replace one of the 0.3mm with 3 - 0.1mm and start removing it until its not longer tight.

if you want a more precise feel/fit..... get the carbon reinforced parts.

i own a TB-03 and EvoVMS... i prefer the EvoV MS over the TB-03.

must have hopups.. i would say the alum. rocker arms. the alum motor holder thingy (the one that lets you slide the motor side ways). and Ti turnbuckles. the stock ones wear our easily.

Second run for my TB03 this weekend... it's certainly getting there.

Setup is going well away from the stock setup, and much more similar to that on my 416.. and it's certainly working. I'm also getting much more used to driving a shaftie again, resisting the temptation just to mash the throttle

Deffiently think I need to invest in a few more upgrades namely the alloy rockers (for better front suspension), steering (occasionally, car feels a bit, removed) and driveline bits (pretty sure the plastic drive cups are losing the car some speed/acceleration) then it should be able to keep up with the more fancy cars at the club...

So current setup;

FRONT;
Sus. Blocks C/C - 1mm under the blocks (kit setting)
Shocks; TRF's, 40wt, 3 hole pistons, White springs, no foam, 2mm rebound.
Hole 2 in arm, 13mm push rod.
Camber link; Inner hole, 1mm under ball stud (hex headed ball stud which is 1mm shorter, so 0mm with standard ball stud)
C-hub spacer; above steering hub
Ride height; 5.5mm
Droop; 5 on gauge
Camber; -2°
Toe; 0.5° toe-out
Roll bar; Medium
Front Axle; Spool

REAR;
Sus. Blocks; XA/D - 1mm under blocks (kit setting)
Shocks; TRF's, 40wt, 3 hole pistons, Blue springs, no foam, 2mm rebound.
Hole 2 in arm, 3 in tower (one in from top)
Camber link; Inside - inner hole, 1mm under ball stud (hex headed ball stud, see above), Outside - outer hole, 3mm under ball stud (hex headed)
Ride height; 6mm
Droop; 4 on gauge
Camber; -2°
Roll bar; Medium
Rear Axle; Diff

OTHER;
Gearing; 54t Spur, 39t Pinion
Motor; Losi Xcelorin 17.5
Speedo; Losi Xcelorin
Servo; Futaba S9550
Reciver; Spectrum Pro
Battery; Orion Carbon 3600 LiPo
Tyres; Sorex 28R pre-glued

Still got some things to try next time out. having measured the car up against the 416 this evening, I'm going to drop the front roll centre, and move the pushrod out on the arm to help calm the front a little as a result of that change.

Thanks for posting your setup TryHard. Just wondering, is this for carpet or asphalt?

I just got a TB03 with all the blue Tamiya goodies on it. I've been driving it 2 weeks in a row now at the Tamiya track. I haven't driven any of my cars since I got this . I really didn't know what to expect since this is my 1st electric 10th scale sedan but I think I prefer this over the TA05 IFS that I drove not too long ago. I'll be following this thread for setups. Thanks!

Thats for outdoor asphalt. Track temp was probably around 10-12°C, but it was quite dusty on the track. Track still had a good amount of grip, but the car did feel like it was skating across the surface on occasion, which is what making me think the roll centres are a bit on the high side... although the higher CoG with the higher diffs may contribut to that (they are about 1mm higher than the 416).
Like I mentioned above, I'm going to try with a lower front roll centre next time out, by dropping the 1mm shim under the blocks down to 0.5mm... shoudl help the front grip better, and help the mid corner rotation, improving the balance.
If that works, I might look at lowering the roll centres all round, for more grip in general.... probably going to have to wait a few weeks before I get the chance though... meet the gf's family next weekend!!!!

Something I forgot from that setup was the wheelbase shims, as I'm now using alloy suspension mounts. Currently on both the front and rear I have 3mm in front of the arm, and 1.5mm behind.

Doing some more measuring up, that brings it smack bang upto the same wheelbase as the 416, but with a more rearward biased weight distribution (cells are about 2mm further back). So something else to try maybe lengthing the rear wheel base slightly more... adding that to the list now as well

Cheers
Ed
