You can lighten the chassis without giving up strength. And it seems to add some grip. I compete with X-rays and other lighter cars with no problems

What is the actual weight savings by doing this modification? (In grams if possible)
FYI...It is fairly easy to Dremel away 1 ounce of material out of the inside of the XXX-S chassis tunnel without making a skeleton frame out of the chassis and retaining the fully enclosed drivetrain.

I'll check the difference with my full normal chassis tomorrow. last I checked it was 1042 full, 977 lightened. But then I found some other areas to improve so might be less now.

Hey guys I have a question. I race my xxx-s G+ on a tight indoor course, and it runs good on the "infield" part of the track, but when I get onto the straightaway, the other guys pull me bad. I'm way down on speed on the straight. I have new pro-match 1.175 packs and brand new monster motors. I'm running a 128 spur with a 28 pinion. Whats the deal????????

Pinion is way too small. Try 128/33
You didn't say what motor, so I will assume Monster-based power.
Furthest I every geared down was with a 30T pinion on a really, really tight track. The pinion range for most tracks is 31-33T for XXX-S and JRX-S.

Just a response to an earlier post....I still use mt xxx-s g+, and it is still very competitive. Good driving is the key to winning races, not the equipment so much. All of the companies make decent cars all across the board....it's the driver that makes the difference.

How about some tips on saving weight on the XXX-S G+...? The parking lot we race on is pretty dusty/dirty most of the time, so I want to keep the sealed drive line tunnel, so the 'swiss cheese' approach does not appeal to me... I've also seen guys go crazy with aluminum screws, but many places on the car that would appear to be risky, as you may give up strength in a critical area....
Post your tips and tricks -- pictures too!
Thanks in advance!

Scrap your battery strap and tape your batts in it helps lt to rt balance and saves a few grams!
You can easily dremel away about one ounce from the inside of the tunnel without losing its sealed aspect. Don't dremel on the surfaces that hold the spur gear in place.
If you don't want to deal with taping batteries in place, you can cut away most of the material of the battery strap.

Exterminator,
How strong is the car now that you have done all that machining. I mean if you get a hit from another car, have you had anything break???
Cheers
