The guys in Europe race single speed GT cars in "Rally Game" class, so you could try it here in the USA too. The 2-speeds are very cool, but don't let that stop you from trying it on the track, you could also try a 17T clutch bell depending on the engine's torque & RPM potential.

For bodies, you'll have to check out the Kyosho IGT1 or ProtoForm PF8 bodies. They should fit fine after you figure out the body posts for your Losi 8.

Good luck with it!

Post some pictures if you can.

Man I am so up in the air about this. I have a Losi 8ight 2.0 buggy and would love to have a road version of the same (L8ight Model) would be close. I just don't want to make a mistake. I have a brand new O.S. 21 VG (p) engine that I could use but not sure if it can handle the long back straight at my local track. I know I could get a body to fit it's just the wheel lenght I'm worried about..Guess I juts have to ether take the leap or go with a Kyosho IGT or Ofna DM-1 Spec...Thanks to all for the insight...Mike

Hi, some instructions for the GT2 owners to make the evolva gear conversion.

http://www.snrt.net/evo/instructions.htm

Not quite as sophisticated as the one by Ipanema, but this has been race tested and it can handle race .28s with ease.

Cheers

Default Buggy

I tried the converted buggy on the onroad. Forget about it unless you don't have much of a straightaway. The os vg is junk for onroad also. I hope this helps. Dm-1 spec rules!

May I ask..why do this? What are the benefits of this mod? Is there a problem with the stock setup?? Thanks, Mike

when upgrading to a more powerful engine the pin that is in the second spur gear has a tendency to wear out and cause a gear failure over time.

This mod pretty much makes the tranny bullet proof against that and makes the 2 speed shifting a lot more consistent. And since the evolva gears were meant to handle the power of high end .21's they are a bit tougher then the stock gears as well. They are also lighter then the stock gears thereby reducing the rotating mass of the tranny witch in turn lets your engine spool up a bit faster giving you more acceleration and top speed.

Mike which track to you go to?

Also I am torn between the GT, GT2, DM-1 all these choices!

The Losi L8eight looks good too, but it will need a 2-speed in my opinion for the track in Chaplin, CT.

From what I have read, the IGT or GT2 just need the 2-speed upgrade. The IGT has a shorter wheel base, thus allowing certain bodies for this chassis. ie. Ferrari, Aston and BMW i believe, right? The GT2 give the option for the Audi, Corvette and McLaren, due to the longer wheel base. The GT2 does come upgraded with a slightly better eninge, but still requires the 2-speed upgarde mentioned above.

As far as the DM-1, don't see much about it, but from the looks on the OFNA page it looks pretty well built. Specially with the lay down front suspension. Not sure about the bodies for this car, but from a video posted a few pages back, the battle between the GT and the DM was pretty intense. Very similar cars.

I might have to toss the coin here, when ever i find one with 3 sides.......GT, GT2 or DM-1
The $$$ on the GT2 is the same as the DM-1. The GT2 will need upgrades making it more expensive than the DM-1. The GT will also need upgrades making same price as the DM-1. Does the DM-1 need anything out side of the box?

The GT1 can fit the bodies mentioned above as well as the nissan calsonic, Subaru and the protoform PF-8 body.

The GT1 needs a few upgrades mainly the brakes and the 2 speed the stock engine is ok to get started and has been raced with some success but it needs a lot of maintenance with the bearings in order to stay running well.
but with those basic upgrades you can be competative with the GT-1 .

The GT-2 also needs a few upgrades as well mainly the 2 speed I belive they updated the breaks from the factory not 100% on that.

The DM-1 also has a few weak points that need to be upgraded I'm not all that familiar with the DM-1. There is a thread here on rctech that goes into it in more detail usually on the first or second page of the on road group.

All of the cars will need aftermarket tires and better servo's as well as new engines as the stockers aren't all that great although the DM-1 and GT-2 are pretty decent they do tend to lack a bit of speed and power compared to whats available out there.

The GT2 has to have the mesh set tight....real tight. When you hit something (a wall or another car) if the engine shifts even a little bit the second gear will strip. I went to a one piece engine mount and this really helped. There is a new 40/46 gear set (IG110B) that is suppose be out of a different material and may help fix the problem... but even then... set the mesh tighter than any mesh you have previously set.... make sure that it doesn't bind... but real tight.

The dual rotor brakes on the GT2 are great for bashing... I stripped out the centers of both rotors in the first race day. The turned rotor and sintered pads are the ticket for racing.

We have a few DM-1's coming to our tracks... just haven't seen what they can do yet.

I raced a GT from when they came out until last November when I bought a GT2. On a big flowing track the GT2 works great. I just converted my GT2 to the shorter GT chassis for our local parking lot tracks. It seems to rotate quicker in the tight turns.

Thanx for the replies.

Yes i read the 2 speed IG110B is mainly from the Evolva which works pretty well. If not you have the 2 speed by Ipanema, Black Hawk SR, which is mainly the same thing.

I usually upgrade the radio system when I get the cars.

So i guess for the track layout on my other post, the GT2 should be enough.

What about a Buggy and converted to onroad? is that a pain? Sorry for all these questions

That depends on which buggy you have. Also remember most buggies are single speed, so there may be some modding needed to make a two-speed transmission fit.

The wheel base also need to be considered for body fit purposes.

The IGT2 is a great car. But if you want to go from basher, to racer. You'll need the Blackhawk two speed tranny kit, IFW122 Disk rotor, IFW324 Brake pads, and 55R Rubber tiers.
