Brushless and lipo is definitely worth the money if you plan on sticking with the hobby for more than a couple weeks.

As for DSM or spectrum it is a nice convenience but by no means necessary...

Also check there isn't too much play between the inner and outer race, compare it to a new one. If there isn't excessive (any more then a new one) play and it rolls smooth and quiet it's fine.

.21 is the limit for buggy .28 for truggy but a lot of people run the .21's in both. A good .21 will have enough power and better run time plus its just easier to control.

It says that so you don't use it with alkaline batteries which can't handle the high current draw from the servo. They need to update it to say nicad, nimh and lipo.

That servo should work fine.
