I'll give him an 8 on the launch, style points for flips and 6 on the landing.

New to this thread I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge on converting the center diff of a mugen mgt7 eco to a solid shaft. How are people doing it? Looking for a speed car in a couple of months and a center diff is not part of my dream kit lol.

I bought a Serpent single speed shaft and used a lathe to bring the 8mm down to 5mm on a small portion of the shaft. By default, it's a bit long when fitting the MGT7 so you need to cut it down a bit. You can use any shaft really, but 8mm is the beefier option compared to 5mm. I bought some 8mm mod 1 pinions as the center drive gear. The hard part is getting the output drives to stay on at high speeds since the only thing holding them on is a set screw. The modified end of the shaft needs a really flat surface so that there's little vibration to walk the output drives off.

You flattened what part of the shaft? The part that holds the 2 speed in order to bolt on the pinion gear ( used as a spur gear)? Once you do that you put on the normal outdrives and bearings and everything should fall right in place?

I bought this shaft and cut it down about 1/4 inch or so, but you'll have to find out how much needs to cut for your application. I brought the 8mm outer diamater on the cut side to 5mm exactly like the unmodified side. Then add flat spots somewhere on the 8mm region of the shaft for the spur gear adapter, pinion, whatever. You can figure out how to space it based on your motor and pinion. The other flat spot is on the 5mm end that I used a lathe for for the outdrive and set screw.

I haven't read thru entire thread, I will, however. But first this is what I have, a Speed Passion LM1 which wont work in any class at my track, RJ Speed Porsche 962 body because it was cheap and cool, and right now running a 13.5 with 2s battery. However I have just purchased a used 5 turn Speed Zone motor in great if not perfect condition. Problems. New to speed runs, new to Mod motors, and no clue as to how to gear for either. I'm also running foams. Any one here that's been down this pan car road help me please. I dont want fire on first day, second day is fine, just not first day.

Well done. You seem to have a system for this. I need to work on getting my XO-1 to track straight.
