Speed Run Electric (All Classes Welcomed)
#1

I wanted to share some of my electric accomplishments during the past 9 months or so. I encourage anyone else who has the passion for speed to post their videos also. I will help in what I can. I've been intrigued by speed for as long as I've been in the hobby. I've watched pioneers like Nic Case do amazing things and do the almost impossible. I've also watched people like Johnracerx do some amazing things also that were just insanely quick and clever. I had the pleasure to join 2 Rossi Speed events here in Los Angeles, California.

As you can see sometimes I would make small changes either to the gearing or the suspension and I would either gain or loss a mph, but it didn't deter me. I hope to get to 130mph and beyond provided it's safe and I have enough room to slow down.

I don't want this to turn into a who's the fastest, but show your own accomplishments.

SNRcarbon sells a chassis conversion for the Kyosho. It's already long enough stock which is longer than my OFNA stock.

The GT2 VE is a solid car. I have had mine up to 126 mph. But I have had major problems with center dogbones/universal shafts popping out and bending during speed runs. It has happened at least 5 to 6 times. Its come to a point that I am afraid to do speed runs because of this issue.

Is there speed to be gained from different diff oils? Can you please share the gearing you use?
#8

I can't give gear options away, but my diff fluids are pretty simple 60k rear and 100k front always. The diffs are the most critical part of the speed run. If they fail you crash so extra attention and time needs to be taken with them.

So the thicker the diff oils faster top speed? I run stock diff oils in my Kyosho GT2 VE and Mugen MGT7.
#10

The thicker the oil from what I found equals more stability and power transfer to the wheels. If anything is a miss the power will be unbalanced and the car will get very unpredictable really quick. I've had great results with this setup. I run no weights on the car all wind and areo parts (splitter, and wing) nothing to fancy. The least amount of drag the better.

Thanks for the tips. I will try those diff oils in the future. Can you post a pic of your GTP2E with the body on to display the aerodynamics?
I have tried the XO1 wing before instead of the stock wing and my car kept losing control or was hard to keep straight when accelerating hard. My guess is that it was caused by the decreased downforce in the rear from the XO1 wing. But I think top speed would have been higher with it.

If you want the ultimate in top speed aerodynamics & stability for your GT, give the Ipanema Warrior body a try; it's been proven all over youtube on the fastest GT cars all around the world for years.

I have a Warror body with the wing cut off exactly like the red one pictured. I have the same problem with it where it loses control and hard to keep straight if I accelerate too hard. Its even flipped and slid upside down for at least 50 ft the first time I did a speed run with it right when I gave it hard throttle. My guess is the same- not enough rear downforce. I probably should have left some of the wing on there. However, top speed is always higher with the warrior body compared to my stock OFNA McLaren body. So I only use it for speed runs now where I roll on the throttle gently and carefully to maintain control.

I think most top-speed runners don’t really realize exactly how much over-powered their electric GT’s are.
I remember talking with Johnracerx a few years ago about his method of using fiberglass on the inside of his Ipanema Warrior bodies. He felt the additional weight wasn’t even an issue on his 145+ mph cars; as a matter of fact, he said the weight helped him maintain directional stability against any gusts of wind at those higher speeds.
