I run all three colors of the Alpha and they all run great above 255, just this past week I ran my red head in a 20 minute main and it screamed from beginning to end with one pit, no flame outs and finished at 302 temp. I was worried at first but the motor smoke great never lean bogged and it has tons of compression.

i have been running my orange head at 290-310 for the last 2 weeks. it finally came in this weekend and went fat. temps dropped to 245 and it ran like crap. leaned it out about 2 hours on bottom and 1 on top and now i have a monster in my truck!! now if they would just come out with some special edition ryan lutz pink heads i would be 100% satisfied!! lol

I run all three engines, in buggy and truggy. They always seem to temp around 250-270 when they feel to be running their best. Of course ambient temp will play part in those temps also.

If it's running to your liking. Who cares what the temps are.

Like Danny said though. In SoCal we see 250-270 as optimum 98% of the time.

I'm sure somewhere it's been asked.. but what is the best truggy motor choice. I live in NY, will be raced in nitro pro-series events.. I'm an electric guy so I don't know alot about these motors and want something good for when I do race it.

how is the z852 green head?

The Z852 has screaming top end, at the slight expense of some bottom end torque. For an open track layout, it is sweet. For any other type layout, I would run the S852. It has tons of torque, and still screams on the top. All three engines get great fuel economy.

For Truggy S852 or F850 are better in my impression.

Thanks for the tip.. who has the best prices on these motors around anyway? I'm looking to keep my expenses down since I run brushless most of the year.

Thanks

A friend of mine, Roelof, has re-worked a liner-set of the Alpha F850 in order to fit it into his JP onroad racing engine:

Original:

Re-worked:

Works:
- exhaust wider
- exhaust in the middle higer
- made boostports (drilled)
- "teardrops" on all other ports
- Enlarging of the flow channel of the main flowport
- Resized with grinding in order to fit in to a JP carter (= Novarossi)

Fitted into the JP carter:

and the engine now:

PS- Can someone explain how to embed a vid? I've tried a few things to no avail. Have also asked in another thread, only to be ignored.

PSS- Thx for the vid, MBurton

Click on reply, then click the YT icon in the 'kitchensink' above and insert the number of your video:

Without the space it makes:

That video just sold me on the Alpha engines. Those will be my next purchase as soon as I'm in need of a couple new mills.

Thanks for sharing Nitro.
