Well, if I compare it to my MAX MX21 MF and to my evo5 (I have both engines), it looks more like the MAX engine, so I disagree with you......

Here, check it yourself....

Default JPilone's Last Line in his Signture

Jarrod, just noticed you changed your signature line again.. Ron White is absolutely hilarious! If anyone ever gets the chance, I think his best work was on the Blue Collar Comedy tour.. Oh My God funny!

I too disagree. When comparing engines, a comparison of the crankcase alone is not enough to tell you if they are same or not. It's pretty clear a lot of nitro engines, either directly, or OEMed, by Novarossi share a lot of the same parts, including crankcases, carbs, backplates, bearings, screws, conrods, pistons, inner heads, cooling heads, etc. Shared parts are used to realise economies of scale during manufacture and thus keep costs down.

While I'm not an engine expert, to me it seems the major difference is in the sleeve and the crankshaft. Basically, number of ports, where I put my ports on the sleeve, how big they are, their shape, etc seems to have a big effect on performance. Compare a 3 to 5 port engine, a noticable difference. For the crankshaft, how it's balanced also seems to be a performance enhancer. Adding a ceramic bearing or varying the size of the carb venturi are also performance enhancers. Materials too could play a role. Same shape but a slightly different mix of metals to make the case may have positive effect. JP black coats their engine for better performance.

Overall though I believe ports are the major contributor to engine power.

I don't believe the MF is a revamped evo5 even if they shared a similar crankcase.

There's my 2 cents.

Jarrod,

The set-up that Salven put on my car at the nats was similar to what Paolo uses at Ft. Myers (http://www.serpent-usa.com/pdf/960_Ft.Myers_Setup.pdf). The only differences are the car at Kissimme was at it's shortest wheelbase,45wt oil all the way around, and the swaybar links on the outside hole of the arm. Also on the gearing I ran a 50-16 and a 45-19. Hope this helps.
