Look at where I circled in your pic. I think you have the shaft in backwards.

See the large circular opening, thats where the 2nd bearing should be.

Now I'm guessing since I've never had one of these cars, but sure looks like how it should go.

It's not backwards.... He's using the stock lay-shaft. The kit comes with a new shaft that isn't present in his build. It's longer and takes up all the space...

Yes, 37T pullies do run a larger plate. Also require 12 balls not 8.

as sosidge said, the IFS-R uses larger diff plates and has 12 balls instead of 8 in the regular TA05. i'm not completely sure, but i think the 05 IFS-R uses the same 416 drivetrain. it's basically a 416 on a tub chassis lol.


edit:
ok i've cross-checked my manual with a 416 manual on the net. they both use the same diff assy + 18t pulleys. and they also use the same suspension parts, aside from the arms. the IFS-R uses the newer short reversible arms, while the 416 uses the lightweight arms.

the hobbyshop that sold me the chassis is sending me the proper shaft parts!!

Minami: The newest 416 World Edition now uses short arms as well. The suspension mounting blocks are different though (1C, 1C & 1XA, 1F)...

Thanks for the info minami and sosidge, I ordered a ton of diff-balls and a few plates.

If I used the 36T pulleys and 18T center gear what mod has to be done to make it work? I read online that the instructions called for a mod to be able to use the white belts?

so i got my the correct layshaft parts today..

can someone please direct me to either a illustration or diagram showing me the proper way to build the floating layshaft?

thank you guys!

Not sure where to find specific instructions for your chassis, but the TA05MS has a very similar assembly and should help you.

Here's the TA05MS manual..

Page 4, Build Step # 2 shows the layshaft assembly being installed, I am guessing that its going to be very similar to that...

3 Racing used to have their instructions posted on their website, but I couldn't seem to find them yesterday. Keep digging around. Otherwise you'll just have to wait for them to respond to your e-mail...

Well.. they ALMOST work.

The problem is that the TA05-R uses the EVO axles with the 950 bearings -- they are too short to use with the 1050 bearings in the 416 steering blocks. So... I had to get the 416 axles too. Now it looks like the whole thing will drop right into the 05-R suspension .

Yep -- I'll be there tomorrow. I was in California all week and didn't get back until last night. Had to get the Christmas tree and stuff today.

Simple mod just a bit of dremel work on the chassis to allow for the larger belt to clear without hitting anything.

Not a lot really needs to be taken off.
