Last week I had one my front left shock leak all its oil in a race, I don't know what caused it as I didn't hit anything - they've gone a couple of months without a rebuild though. I've just taken the shock apart and the top black bladder has split.

As I can't open PDF's at the moment, and I haven't got a manual, are the bladders available on their own or is it just as part of the Race Shock Seal Rebuild Pack (U2999)?

Or are there any other bladders that fit?

I believe the much more bladders work in a pinch.

If the exploded diagram PDF is correct, then the bladders are only availible as part of U2999

That would be correct, U2999 is the shock rebuild kits that have new bladders in them

Thanks guys, I'll get the rebuild pack and change the o-ring on each while I'm at it.

On a similar note, has anyone had the gold colouring turn silver as the shock shaft enters the unit?

When the car first came out, I recall someone mentioning this, but they came back later and said that they had made a mistake in building the shocks(not sure what mistake) and that led to the loss of the shaft coating. So I'm not sure if this is something that happens over time, or if its a shock building issue.

I know I've had a couple different cars with this type of coating on the shock shafts, but no matter where I ran the car (indoors/outdoors) I've never had the coating wear off.

I had the same thing happen to my original shock shafts, I changed them out and I have not ever had a problem since.

that shouldn't really ever happen. it takes alot to rub off a TiN coating. essentially this is caused by sideloading the shaft. installed, the only way for this to happen is to have friction in either ball joint (cup, or cap). you have to trim the flashing off of the plastic balls up top or the shock will press on, and bind. additionally, you can't tighten the locknut too far or the ball will expand radially and (again) bind up the shock. sitting on my car stand, i always make sure the top of the shock moves in/out really easily with a slight brush of the top of it.

i think our upper shock mount is one of the best in the industry. it allows you to take out any slop a standard ball joint would have by how much you tighten the locknut. it's little things like this, that aren't on a setup sheet, that people don't always know how to duplicate.
