At RCExitement in Mass. we have more than half of our stock 12th drivers running the SMC lipo. I'm planning to buy a lipo this week. All the remaining drivers plan to switch within 2 weeks.
Most of the recent lipo converts stuck with the 17.5 motors because they already have them. They are not much slower than the NiMh except for a little extra punch down the back straight.
I bought a 13.5 to be ready for the switch from my brushed 27T and now realize that I should have talked to the other drivers about it first. What seemd to happen was that most of them had round cell packs that were falling off a bit from age. The same people have healthy 17.5 motors. Once the first lipos hit the track, change came quickly as most were more than happy to dump thier sad round cell packs, yet few want to retire reliable 17.5s to the junk drawer. When the switch happens at the club racing level, it happens fast.

The Novak Boost Circuit will output a sustained 6V/3A ... compared to the 5V/1A that the Hobby King unit claims.

Ok, just got back from my second race with the 13.5/1c. Packs are broken in and the car is a missile !!! 75x35 ft track, fast layout with great traction. Foam 10.5 sedan with very talented drivers pulled a 8.9 fast lap. I got one 9.0 and a couple of 9.1's. Started with consistant 9.2,9.3 and finished with 9.4,9.6's. Cant emaigen how fast it could be with some one like Jeremey behind the wheel.
Most of the drivers were 13.5/1c. I was gonna try the 17.5 to see how slow it is but forgot it at home.
Starting to look like just throw a lipo in and allow 720 grams and call it what it is, stock is 17.5 and super stock is 13.5. Just dont know if it could keep up to the 4cell heavy versions. Or better yet, just dump the 4 cells ??? I bet I get flamed for that comment.

Thats how it should be... more lipo than nimh. Sounds like another class we all race, Sedan.

OH hell yeah .. DK your 12th car looked good! I'm saving up for a pack now. All I need is for you to convert my deans to internal barrels like Danny should have made them in the first place .

I tested my single cell Lipo yesterday, running the Team Losi 180mah 7.4 Lipo for a receiver pack, Tekin RS ESC, Novak 13.5, Spektrum Micro Pro Receiver and the JR3550 Servo. ESC switch off!!!!!!!!!!
I was impressed with how it works, I did struggle a little bit with finding the right gearing though, as well as the settings on my ESC using version 1.89 of the hotwire.
I ended up with about a 77 Rollout, and the settings were Motor at zero timing and the timing and boost on the ESC were maxed, I also used Throttle Profile 4......... I added 119 grams of weight to the battery, I can't remember what the final weight number was, but somewhere around 800 grams
I was about 4/10 of a second off of my best laptimes with my 17.5 4 cell
I managed to run 10:30 without any feel of dumping and motor came off fairly cool!
Anyone using a slightly different setup than this????

Try dropping the weight closer to 700g. That should help with the speed. The setup will vary a little to settle the darty feeling you'll get. Once you get a better handle and get used to it you should be closer to your previous pace.

I try to finish at about 140 degrees or so depending on laptimes. If I get it hotter it seems to fall off. My advice is not to get all that hung up on motor temp unless it's getting hotter than what the motor can handle.
Some times it will run better at 120 degrees and sometimes it runs better at 160. Just depends on the track.
