thanks
I am running a 104 spur ( 1.7 internal ratio ) and that seems to get me all the FDR's I need. I know you are asking for the pinion size... so read on....

Final drive ratio ( FDR ) depends on too many things to give you a good answer. Batteries, amount of drag brakes, *timing profile**, "physical" timing in your motor, last but not least *track layout* and just to throw a last curve ball, ambient temperature. It really is a moving target, if you just want to risk it and possibly overheat your new motor you can try something way below 5.0. I've run, with the same trinity duo motor, an FDR from 4.2 all the way to 5.0 using different timing profiles and drag brake settings etc ( all of the above factoring in ) using the tekin RS ESC and the LRP SPX ESC. Basically the FDR is wildly different considering all the variables stated above especially jumping from one ESC to the next and all the settings in between.

Given all that, if you want to start with something I'd say run timing profile 6 or 7 in SPX ( and little to no physical motor timing ) and with your Spur at 108 i'd run a 37 tooth pinion to start.
That would be a 4.96 FDR ( for a generic 17.5 motor ). Temp your motor after 2 -3 minutes and re-gear accordingly ( with a target of 160 degree motor temp ).
Goodluck !

I'm a little different in my gearing. I run 17.5 duo, asphalt, and SPX. At profile 8 I am around a 4.1. I've gone as low as 3.9 and as high as 4.25. My temps are never above ~140. I use a 98 tooth spur, I just think it fits a little better.

No. The aluminum bodies are for the aluminum shock set only. You need #308331.

There is no way to switch to aluminum bodies without purchasing the complete aluminum shock set, because the plastic shocks use different parts.

What battery do you run? I run the same set-up as you do but my ratio is around 4.75 due to the fact that best performance ive found on the duo is around 175 nd it can handle the higher temps

SMC Lightning Volt (28C) soon to be C-Max. My laptimes are up there with the best of them at the track (off by a 1/10 or 2, but that's skill level). I've tested with higher ratios (above 4.5) but I still get the best giddy up around 4.1.

Is that battery fast charge capable? If not how many amps are you charging at?

I charge at 1C, but Danny at SMC says all his batteries can be charged at 2C.

So it's probably safe to say it can be charged at least at 1.5C

My Xray 009 is featured on the cover of the August issue of XRC. I wrote the review on the car and did testing at the brand new OCRC carpet track in Huntington Beach, CA. Many thanks to the guys at XRC for putting a touring car on the cover!
