hey chris, i had that same issue where my smc 5200/40c pack had a 1mm gap between the top deck so i had to mount the battery almost half way off the chassis, i said f-it and sold that pack and i just bought that 4700/40c smc pack. if you hold the car up and manually flex it with the 5200 in it you will notice how it hits the top plate, as far as the tray thing check out ppd or pdp or something its around here so.mewhere

so, to contine to belabor the point...is the WE really $125+ better than the standard 416 for low power apps like RCGT or VTA? (outdoor asphault)
Sorry for the nube qustion, but I have a disease...and when I see the Evo IV for $230, I can only say to myself "That's a great deal, why not spend twice that on a TA05MS?"...which led me here as the 416 is down to $375...

chatty, if you're only looking for a tourer to do gt with then spend less $ a 416we is awesome but i think can be overkill for that class, myself, we have a gt class and its pretty cool but i would'nt go further than a tb03 or ta05
.
i heard some good things about the tb03 so i'd consider that... inexpensive and easy to upgrade!!!

Those weights are nice but ... moving the cells that far out slows down the polar moment. That car will not rotate or change directions as quickly.
Chances are you will get hit on the side and rip the screw out of the chassis. Hope it doesn't happen to you but ... I know it would happen to me ,,lol

Down at the very bottom, there are some stainless "inserts" that fit into the battery slots. I just shoo goo those to the bottom of my packs (or use thin carpet tape) and arrange them in such a way that they prevent the pack from moving around. If I need more weight, I just use double-sided tape and stick tungsten weights to the pack. You can cover those in CF stickers to make them look nice, and even sharpie the edges black if you want.
I fit an SMC 5200 40c in the car (with the stock chassis) no problem.

The outside supports are not kept in place only by a screw... Maybe it will break, but many cars at our club has this set up now for the last 3 months, and no breakage so far...
Interesting how you can make such final statements on how well the car rotates....
