Old TC Cars - Still Racing Competitively
#526
I used to own a fully TRF hopped up TA03 (don't remember what the exact model was called)... but I don't remember anything being "killer" about it. I actually sold it and got an HPI Pro 2, with which I was far more comfortable (and much more successful).

I had a decent outing with my Diggity DC4 / Associated TC4 based car over the weekend, taking second in 17.5 touring despite a mountain of tuning changes and fighting (eventually beating) traction roll through sweepers. On the upside, I think I found a way to keep the car from tweaking and ruining it's handling.
As a caveat, I was running on Jaco Blues and for some reason every car I have run on blues runs like it has a broken shock or something, complete garbage without making big tuning changes not needed in other tires. BUT they were the local spec tire so I had little choice. The car felt like it needed more rear toe-in, but I had left my toe-in hub carriers at home so I was stuck with stock toe.
It ran semi-impressive laps, and I should have been happy with it but I can't help but feel that with the amount of time and work I put into the cars chassis and suspension it should have been faster or easier to drive. I have a few more tweaks to try, and maybe it was just old jaco tires, but I guess I will see in the future. This dog can definitely hunt, it's just not as aggressive as I wanted it to be.

Tc4 + heavy parts up top = traction roll & second place....
Solution: B..T Mods !
The dc4 shocktowers are too high, making it impossible to lower the body without dremeling the excess off, like I had to do on my Ntc3 k factory front shocktowers. Add steel screws + a heavy PF body that high, and you'll flip forever, but with a blitz 0.5mm body handling is restored....

Thanks DesertRat!
I guess the tc4 definitely needs it's teeth sharpened, putting on better tires would make it bite again

Thanks, Eric, the car has some quirks but I think i have the vast majority of it ironed out. I wish the car felt light and nimble like my old Losi touring car, but I guess it's just not meant to have that snappy settle quickly into the corner feel. It could be a lot worse, but for working on it, on and off, as scientifically as I could now for nearly 3 years I wish it had been better to start.

DesertRat,
It probably only likes the larger outdoor tracks. I personally don't have experience with the tc4, but i know they have a good reputation. Do you have the club version or the team kit?
Oh and I decided to go even more vintage and changed to the original 414 as my primary racer!

Very nice chassis DesertRat!
I am practising with my 414 (number 835) and it's going pretty well. Found a setup which makes it feel like the 414M which I've sold.
I 've driven the 414 as well on carpet as on asphalt.
My setup:
Team Trinity 24K 13.5T
Team Orion R10 Pro esc
LRP 3700 LCG Lipo battery (saddle)
OMG LP-BF07S servo
Sorex 32 Tires
Protoform Stratus 2002 body
