Orion Darrens Quick Set lathe. Its around 130.00 if you can find one. Comes with on/off switch, slave motor and already wired. Just install a diamond bit from www.carterdiamond.com and your ready to go!!

Just an FYI.. I picked up one from Ebay for about 139 shipped... and then the diamond bit from ebay for 55 shipped.

hey EA... how fast should the Orion lathe need to turn to cut smooth? maybe a volt/motor recommendation?

I use the motor the lathe comes with and set my voltage to 4.8 volts.

I cut mine at 4 Volts. Bring it with you to BTH and I'll set it up for you.

cool... ill have it with me. you use the Pilot19 that came with it, or something else? seems like when i ran that motor, it spun way faster than needed...

I use a mod arm...They are balanced better than stock or 19 turn arms. Its in a mod can at 0 degrees of timing.

Another thing that works well is to take one of those ultrabird motors (if you have one) and turn it to 0 degrees timing. That's what I'm using and it runs very smooth, low amp draw.
