I received my new 1s cells and Ion 4 17.5 and 13.5 for this season of On road. Will be running the 13.5 in WGT and 17.5 in 1/12 scale.

So far testing has been VERY GOOD ......

Thanks
Jeff

Once again, Team Fantom power plants are unstoppable. This time in our brand new outdoor asphalt on-road program. We had guys come out from all over the area from other tracks to race our new track. This was in 17.5 stock (blinky) class. Ran my Apex 17.5 wtih a HT rotor, and 65c fantom lipo in a Tamiya 417x. Took TQ and the win. Took out Roar national champion Brian Shook (nicest guy on the planet, btw). The whole package was just unstoppable.

Just ran Fantom's new Ion4 in stock TC this weekend, motor is like a runaway train. You can ran at least 2 or 3 teeth on the motor without any performance loss on the motor but the best part it runs like a boosted motor.

In the 1st TC A-Main i finished 8 sec's on the field and in the 2nd it was like 2 or 3 sec's.

I was a running Fantom's older Apex and doing rear well::: won our carpet summer series. I previously had a 1st and 3rd place finish running the older Apex in the TEXAS EOS series, now followed by another 1st using Ion4. So i was a little hesitant about getting the Ion4, don't be because it is worth every bit of money you have to spend on it. As matter of fact, I can add more gearing but i was afraid too because i was not used to motor. It's was so fast in the heats I was afraid i would overshoot the corners but now that i'm used to it, it's time to go even faster.
Ion4 Works Edition with 12.5 broadband rotor

Get it, you won't regret it

Fantom gear is starting to become pretty popular at my track due to how successful the products have been at the finish line. My track owners actually just put in an order so we can sell Fantom directly from the shop.

Another TQ and win in 17.5 this weekend with my apex, killer voltz, and RB6.

ahhh yeah

Yep here to as well.

Was able to TQ and win 1/12th scale 13.5 open, qualified 4th and finished 6th after being put "into the fence" in 17.5 open, and qualified 6th and finished 4th in 13.5 open.

Best showing that I have had ....... Ion 4 worked very well with power from the 6500/100c......

Thanks
Mark

Has anyone got some motor settings for a boosted 17.5? Ive picked up the Ion4 with the std rotor and the 100c killer volts packs for our up coming Nationals. Track is large and flowing and only a couple of tight turns. Ill be running the Orion R10 pro. I'm more after an idea on motor timing and whether i should retard the timing on the can. With the D3 motors i would only run +1 tick of timing on the can so Im looking for an idea of where this point is on the D3.5. Regards Benzaah

Benzaah,

You are running the strongest combination one can run! Unfortunately most (if not all) of us running 17.5 state side, run strictly blinky/no timing classes (like myself) so I can't give you a first hand base line recommendation myself (any 17.5 boost guys out there?). How much boost and how much gear you run is going to depend largly on the size of the track, and the nature of the turns (fast and flowing? or slow with a lot of 180s?)

You will probably want to run 0 timing on the endbell, and gear somewhere around 30/72, with a medium amount of boost and go from there, making sure to keep an eye on temps your first couple times out. The more boost you run, the lower you want to gear. Unfortunately how much dynamic timing you add can change your gearing recommendation by many teeth. Your best bet would be to find somebody at that track that is running a d3.5 based motor for a base start.

My son ran the Fantom ion 4 for first time last Sunday in boosted 17.5, used the same setting's as our d3 and added 5 degrees timing. Motor was noticeably quicker. TQ and race win bettering his lap times by 3 seconds.

Hey mate, Thanks for the reply. I have been running this combo for a few meets now and also the Australian nationals a month ago. I also had the pleasure of being a tech delegate at the Nationals so i could sneak a peek at all the motors being used in the Amains. Nearly all top 10 were using one variant of the D3.5 or another with the rest SP V3 MMM. All motors were timed somewhere between 8 and 14 degrees on the can and guys were running as much timing through the esc as they could throw at it. Myself running 38/26 on the Orion. Gearing was all over the place with guys running low 5's and up to myself and a few guys i was helping out in the 6.5 area. We are talking the top 17.5 boosted car doing a 19.7's when the top mod driver cracking a 18.8 so the pace is very fast from these motors. They really liven up when you add more timing and are some what slow when running at zero on the can. The motor got hot and faded early in the run when i ran 20 degrees on the can so i quickly moved this back to 12 degrees where ive left it since. I consistently ran my motor at 80 degrees Celsius for the entire nats and the last club meet here and had no issues with fade at 80c either.

And i was hot on his heels with the D3.5/Revtech 100c combo I ran my PB both hot lap and 6 minutes and still got whipped by 7 seconds

Received my new Fantom 4500mah 100c shorty packs this week, and ran them for the first time in buggy last night. WOW what a pack! We are mostly running shorty packs in the RB6 because the buggy is already a little heavy. It ends up 200 grams over-weight with a full sized pack, but only 100 grams over-weight with your typical shorty (much better) The Fantom packs are really high Mah, which is great for your voltage drop over time, but I was worried they would be too heavy compared to my 1.5 year old Losi 3800 packs that I have been using the last couple weeks.

I took both packs to the grams scale, and to my surprise, the Fantom 4500 packs are only ONE gram heavier than my losi 3800s. I think the losi was 205, and the Fantom was 206. It held it's voltage much better, and produced and obvious power difference.

These packs are the business.

Anybody know where I could find a Fantom Apex 21.5 motor?

Unfortunately the Ion 4 isn't allowed where I race.
