Here's just a little report on my Sakura racing. Today was our carpet state champs. I was running really well in our Sportsman class. I won both heats/TQ'd and then was well on my way to winning the main until...

A new guy in the class jumped a rail in a totally different lane. Unfortunately, he chose to soften his landing by taking out my right front A-arm. It's amazing how fast you can go from up a lap to dead last in less than a heartbeat! So, my hopes for a top podium finish were dashed! I'm still so not happy about not taking a trophy home, but what can you do? I guess I am a bad sport since I didn't even stick around for the awards ceremony.

On a positive note, I'm am really enjoying my Sakura. It's a very capable chassis that I've been able to grow with. I'm learning quickly about how to improve its set up. It's been pretty durable considering our indoor track has some less than forgiving barriers. Besides that A-arm today, I've only broken a rear bulkhead cover so far. Overall, I would definitely recommend one to a friend.

I also bought a second used Zero S chassis which I will be using for the upcoming outdoor on-road season as a VTA chassis. I have run a TC4 up to now, but I feel like it is holding me back when I compare the performance to my original Zero. Hopefully I will have better luck during the season and can avoid airborne attacks better!

Hey guys I've read the last 10 pages of this thread
but I have a few questions.

What brand of spur gears fit this car?
Does it come with a 48p or 64p spur gear?
Does anyone have any experience with the sakura spring kit?

I'm gonna be running 17.5 blinky.
(planning on buying the 19t center pulley gears)

Do I need the aluminum spur gear holder?
Will the stock motor mount be ok if I'm running small 64p spurs?

I'm planning on ordering mine from TQrcracing. Any other sites in the
states I should checkout for parts?

I use kawada which fit fine.
not sure on pitch as brought mine secondhand but i run 48 as outdoors.
spring set is very good and cheap..i run the softest on rear(6.5) and harder on front.(5.5)
alloy spur holder is great and again cheap
To me the std motor mount will be ok if you running small pinions but anything above 23/24 will struggle to take motor out with pinion attached.(48p) I also have vertical mount and easier to screw in both engine screws and with std it is hard to get to the one closest to back of car and had to drill hole in spur to access it.

just fitted the x1 rear arms, alloy cvds, front spool, soft top plate(doesnt look any different from what I had), ti coated shock shafts, more pink ball ends,

Just about any brand spur gears fit. I've used associated, robinson and 3Racing for sure, maybe others. If you stick with the stock/horizontal motor mount spurs with holes large enough for you 2mm hex driver to fit through make mounting the motor easier. But with smaller spurs this becomes an issue and upgrading to the vertical motor mount is the easiest way to resolve it.

Stock spur is 48p 80T.

The spring kit is great if you don't know what rates you'll need. You can buy the springs in individual pairs if you know what rates you'll need. The kit shocks and the adj shock set both come with the same springs so you'll end up with an excess of them.

If you use any of the optional pullies, the aluminum spur gear holder is required. You'll also probably want the optional layshaft holder to get the layshaft spacers/shims. 19T pully makes IDR 2.0 so FDR calcs become much easier.

You can go down to about 64p 90t spur with no issues, once you start going below that size you may need to modify the gear/gear holder to get it to fit properly. I've used up to 64p 53t pinions with 64p 93t spurs before the pinion starts to hit the motor mount arm (vertical motor mount) or you start to run out of adjustment room (stock/horizontal motor mount).

it has 2x holes to secure it and only 1x hole lines up perfectly so need to tap out the other new hole at some stage but holding fine with just 1x and it has little locating bumps on underside which you need to dremel off but thats easy and positions the battery perfectly as my IP cells have the bumps on the bottom which sits into the chassis and its a nice tight fit and I have used 2x alloy ballstuds tapped into the 2x alloy posts that run down centre of chassis to stop the battery moving into the belt.

stock are crap for adjusting as knuckle is real small..get the ti ones as i think they are like 15usd for set.

You'll be fine.

But, on the very small chance you decide you hate it, at least you'll only be out $120-150 instead of $400-500.

I think they forgot to hammer flat sections into the stock turnbuckles. They pretty much require pliers to adjust as there isn't much of a hex on them. The titanium upgrades are great though. Nice large flat surfaces to adjust with.

I'll have about 225 wrapped up in it, thats including the turnbuckle set and extra parts. Extra's just in case, I'll be the only guy at my track with a sakura.

I'm trying to order everything from TQrc Racing. This is the only turnbuckle kit they seem to have.

Think it will work?

is the Sakura Xi a far more superior car than the Zero. I think the parts interchange right?

Only reason I ask is, I found one for the same price with extra's.

That is the same amount I'll have in a new Zero with extra's.

Doubt it. Zero has 6 "long" ones (4 @ 35mm for camber and 2 @ 40mm for steering) and 1 "short" one for the servo to steering rack. That set shows 5 "long" ones and 2 "short" ones. The turnbuckles are "niceties" not "necesities" though. The stock ones can be a little frustrating to adjust but it's not that bad.


As far as the XI goes, I don't really get it personally. If you are going to spend that much, I'd go with a more mainstream car -- Associated, Tamiya, X-Ray. To me, the benefit of the Zero S is that it's got no competition at it's price point and can be upgraded incrementally.
