My carbon axle bent/cracked at the diff-plate. First thing I did was to pop the little pin out and remove the axle from the diff plate. Then I turned the axle around and re-drilled a small hole for the pin. That way the axle clamp on the Left Hand side of the car squeezed right over the cracked area and it ran fine like that for a while.

Just today I got the Tamiya carbon axle ITEM# 54162 and I think it can be drilled and trimmed to fit as a replacement. I'll post if it worked ok.

The 54162 is less expensive than the combined TRF101 Axle and Diff plate that they sell.

Steel Axle for TRF101 and 101W has just been released,
Tamiya Part number 84381, it is only 9g heavier then the carbon one.

I ordered one last week, they look the goods.

The complete carbon shaft + housing is now also available for 104's and 101's part 84380.

Just got a TRF101w but am wondering about the bodies, which fit or should I be using?

Do I need to stick to wide bodies or do most of them fit but they just look wierd?

What about rubber tires, do they fit W?

Every F104 or F103 type body will fit, one with a high nose (F2012, F60, MP4/24, F104....) will look much better with the carbon front suspension. Imagine a Tamiya Lotus 79 body on your 101W and you'll understand what I mean. It's fine for rubber tyres.

Same width as F103 Front, it will look odd with F104 tires on 101W.

Wow, not sure why Tamiya did this. Most club rules and even some bigger races abide by the 190mm maximum width rule.

Japan and several other Asian countries still run a 200mm foam class. A lot of F1RCGP classes use a spec foam tyre only, and still allow old F103 cars to race. Considering all of Tamiyas F104W cars are the old T-piece design, makes sense to bring out a high end version instead of ignoring the class.

True, guess my original assumption way back as a "W" designation was that it would be like the others. F104W, F104W-GP, etc.

Was assured by Tamiya USA that it would be 190mm, but guess not.

is possible to put the narrower front end with wheels they get more into the chassis? 0 changing the front axle by 101? will support?

Hi guys,

Just got back into rc again after a 6-year absence. Brought back my F104 Pro kit to race my buddies, and I found that the compounds on the rubber tires were too stable; not sure if it's a good or bad thing.

I have a question: do you guys running your F104 with rubber tires getting front end understeer all the time?

I would like my car to be reactive with rubber tires. Tried Tamiya ones with no luck. Tried Sweep soft compounds with no luck either. I have 1 last set of brand new Shimizu tires which I have yet to try.

Go for pit shimizu PS 0571 PS 0572, you won't be disapointed, if you want more steering you can try PS 0574 front

but try to improve your setup first before changing tires.

How does it feel compared to foam tires? Still lose out?

you'll have less grip for sure , on my carpet track it's about 0.5s per lap. But i feel the car less "shaky" with the rubber. you have to deal with a bit slipping , it's not unpleasant
