I use the higher Top Deck and tape the LiPo in without any extra weights. Works good for me.

Which shocks are you guys using on the 009? Aluminium or Plastic and which have you found easier to get more consistent?

Thanks,

Adrian

The plastic shocks work fine. This has been debated before with other XRay cars before this and the word from the pros is that the plastic shocks perform well enough for your needs. So long as you build them right with good seals and bled properly, there is no need for aluminum shocks.

Default Exotek XR2

Just got the Exotek XR2 chassis for my 009. All I can say is WOW!

There was another review of it by someone else saying that is was rough and really I don't see how. The edges were smooth and all the holes lined up perfectly. Even despite that I still took a small file to break all the edges of the chassis before sealing it with ca glue.

My 009 had the XRay lipo weights and "hooks which are not compatible with the Exotek chassis. The graphite "hooks" included in the kit allow for three different lateral positions to mount the battery. I chose the inner most position. In doing so I had to use the XRay Lipo pads for the top deck.

There are two sets of holes to allow the battery to be mounted more forward or more aft. The forward position gives more neutral handling while the aft position gives more steering. Although Exotek claims that the XRay battery strap is not compatible with their chassis, I was able to fit it using the outer battery "hook" holes. This was done by stacking one of the posts on top of the "hook" and shaving material off the other "hook" to allow the other post to mount on the unused holes for that "hook".(I'll try to post pics later)

The Exotek chassis is about 1/4in.narrower on each side and this meant that I had to switch to a low profile servo. However with the battery mounted closer to the center, the narrower chassis setup of this Exotek XR2 chassis makes my 009 look more up to date with the current narrow lipo chassis kits. It fitted my needs because I really like the way my 009 handles but didn't want to have to buy a new XRay kit just to get the narrower chassis setup and start all over again.

I highly reccommend this chassis if you want a fresh look for your T2-009.

Hi, I run xray T2 009 at my local club. very tight track with 100m straight I dont really like the way it drove.

it has lot of understeer in/out the corners, on carpet.
I use standard factory setup on it. with spool in front with ball diff in rear. i use sorex 32R tyres.

If i change the the front diff to ball diff, and rear diff to atomic gear diff (open diff). would it kill the understeer ?

Doing this change will not kill it.

Are you driving on asphalt? Because 32 is too hard for carpet.
Did you tried to lower the roll center on the quick roll center adjuster (3->2)?
What is standard factory setup? Carpet or asphalt?

Someone once told me the simplist thing is to just reverse your setup. Put the front shock, spring and sway bar from the front onto the rear and vice versa. Have you tried to adjust the ackerman setting on the steering servo saver? Less ackerman will make it steer quicker.

Your problem has nothing to do with your car, just your setup. I suggest you find out what others are doing at your track before running out for a bunch of parts which you may not be sure will cure your problem.

Most use Paul LeMieux IIC Las Vegas setup on this chassis for carpet. Don't worry it's got lots of steering.

I'm thinking of getting T2 009 as my VTA car possibly USGT later on. Do you thikn this will be good car for VTA or should I looking into something newer like T3.
How is spare parts avaiability for this car and how much longer do you things spare parts will be available for it.

009s make excellent VTA cars. Parts support is still very good, as many of the suspension and driveline components are shared between the 009 and the newer T3 models. With the right setup, they're still very competitive in the TC spec classes as well.

There has been nothing earth shattering from XRay since the 009 that has made any real difference. It (009) is still a very competitive car especially with the Exotek chassis upgrade. Everything outwards of the bulkheads is the the same as the T3.

The only real difference is the drive ratio which is 1.7 vs. 1.9 on the T3. Thats because the 009 uses 34T diff pullies instead of 38T pullies. For me, I don't see the difference. If you want to jump into the gear diff bandwagon you'll have to convert to 38T for your front spool as all the gear diffs for the XRay are only 38T.
