From what I have seen and heard they are the same as the Speed Passion Sportsman Series. They should have loads of torque but little top end. They work very well on small to medium size tracks but may lack straight line on big tracks though that does depend on your speedo. I quite like my SP motor but have yet to try the TW motor. They look very decent and would work well on the RB speedo or any other high RPM type ESC.

Another week and another win for Team Wave in Sydney. At the Friday night indoor meeting RB50/10.5 Linear combinations took 1st, 2nd, TQ and fastest lap in Superstock.

So i decided to try out an RB50 and Linear motor to get a taste for this Turbo people are raving about. What is a good FDR and speedo setting for 17.5 and 13.5, on foam carpet, track is similar to what the DHI Cup 2009 ran.

The gear ratio for 17.5T/13.5T should be around 4.2/4.5 with turbo on. You can use higher drive profile for aggressive driving style like 8 or 9.

Thanks, is that with timeshift 5?, i saw in an earlier post here http://www.rctech.net/forum/5858380-post320.html , where you mentioned an fdr of 3.xx-4.xx for 17.5 was this for timeshift 4?, i have seen earlier posts on fdr's of 3.95 and 4.0, i guess that depends more on track. So would a 4.2 be with timeshift 5 and say a 3.95 with timeshift 4? is it safe to say to start at 4.2 with turbo and timeshift 5 ?

Every type of motor has differnt optimal gearing. Just start conservative and work your way up from there. Its more a case of what works for you and your driving style than what is best.

As for timeshift... Turbo will give you the speedies maximum rpm no matter what the timeshift setting. You tend to find that timeshift adjusts where the powerband is in the motors rpm range. So for tight tracks runs turbo and low timeshift, for large tracks run turbo with high timeshift.

I know that altering the timing changes the powerband, more timing less torque more rpm and vice versa. I know with my sp17.5 and gt2 with full timing i use an fdr of 4, and since the sp17.5 is the same as a tw17.5 i wondered if the gearing would be similar.

The RB will generate much more rpm than the GT speedy so start around 4.5FDR and you should be close to the same speed but WAY more power. You can work from there towards the gearing that suits you best. I ran against my brother with that same combo (SP motor and speedy) and killed him with power and top end just the other weekend.
