could someone explain me how to dead short a battery?

ok, i dont reccomend dead shorting, but some swear by it. The times i have done it, I run the pack till a crawl, then put it on a tray to kill all remaining power. Then, solder a wire from the pos to the neg side, and let it sit for a few hours/days/ whatever. MAKE SURE ALL THE POWER IS GONE b4 you do this.
Then, when you know u are racing again, take the wires off about a day ahead of time to let the cells voltage equalize.
Then GO FOR IT!

suck the pack down to zero volts, attach wire to both positive and negative ends, put pack away. Race day...un attach wire and begin charging immediately. cells are already equalized...they are at zero remember watch out for false peaks. this will usualy happen early if its going to happen.

right now I have built a discharger with resistor 0.12 ohms at 10 watts for every battery but after around 1 hour I still have some volt.
BTW this is for GP1100 batteries (xray m18 batterie). no discharger exist for those batterie.
someone said to put some diode or led to it?
I will post a picture of it later tonight (when kid will sleep!!!)

If you fully charge the pack first, not only are you dead shorting, but you can Zap your cells at the same time.

to properly dead short a pack...there must be a slight amount of voltage on it. I would use a indiviual cell tray. After you discharge at a higher amp rate...put the pack on the tray till the lights are dim but not totally out, around 3 volts total for the pack. When the pack is in this area, attach the wire and all the bulbs should go out, signaling it is deadshorted.
I wouldn't recomend this for the IB cell, they don't react very well with deadshorting. But GP 33's and 37's, they gain a great amount of voltage and punch, but lose runtime. I have all my GP cells deadshorted and they perform extremely well.

What max is asking is what is needed to make a discharge tray that will bring down individual cells down to zero volts. Like some of the integy trays and the novak. A straight resistor is not bringing the cells down to zero. What is missing on his discharge tray that he is attemping to make for our MICRO sized 2/3A cells like the IB1200 and GP1200. The cells are dirt cheap and we really dont care about how long they last. We just want a kool 1/18th sized dead short discharge tray.
Any help out there?

You take hacksaw and saw through each cell. Now you have a battery that's made of cells that are both dead and short. Don't have much use for dead battery though. Don't mind me I'm today.
