Hey i am looking for some tips regarding setting-up my f104.
I had alot of fun racing at my local track yesterday
it was my first time running the car on asvalt,
and got som questions regarding the handling
When i run the stock foam tires i get great grip but alot of understeer.
it seems like like the the front tires turns to mutch and it is eating my tires.
I decided to try out the stock rubber tires, that was a lot of fun, i really enjoy the scale looks.
Now the front of the car feels mutch better, but the rear end spins out alot. There is close to no grip if i try to follow the correct racing-line.
Whenever i go wide in the turn, there is alot more grip on the the ruff asvalt.
I would really like to continue to run the rubber tires,
If i get the soft/supersoft rear tires will that help alot?
You have to excuse my English :P
Ps. what spurs do you recommend?

Hi, can anyone pls tell me what is the different running form & rubber tires? Seem like there're more rubber f104 racers/players... Other than $, what kind of performance/wear-rate each can give... I am intending to run 13.5 turn motor in it.

Rubber has its own set of challenges, but I think its easier once you get the set up figured out.
As far as your motor choice, it will be fast, but its really overkill, unless you have insane amounts of grip. A 17.5 with a 2c lipo will be a rocket as well.
Fast doesn't= drivable, but it can be fun to try and tame the beast.

About the only thing I would stay away from is a micro servo. It doesnt take a lot to turn the wheels on these cars. Speed is personal preference. I have run the Futaba 132H servos for a long time, and they have always worked well.I am running a JR servo in one chassis and a 132H in the other

Which rubber does the best? I will not run foams for all the reasons you gave as well. Which combos work for low-med grip asphalt?

Foams IMO are a pain in the a$$. The ride height is continuously changing, the need to true them on a regular basis, and the mess they leave on the car.

Besides having to true them and the constant ride height changes, foams do gives a consistent overall grip than rubbers. Rubbers needs more attention and work only in certain conditions and temperatures. When the rubbers are cooked, you lose overall grip.
Well those are my preferences, but it really boils to your own preferences. I dont want to think that there is a hard and fast rule that foams or rubbers work better than either.

May i ask what is the 3.5mm off-set steering knuckle all about? Do they provide WIDER or NARROWER width...?

Assuming they are the same as the 103 offset knuckles they give the car less wheelbase (shorter).

Offset axles locate the axle behind the kingpin to change the way a car turns, and have a profound effect on handling and added stability.
One can expect mid corner, to corner exit under-steer with this option.
