So my first nitro newbie question....

While trying to break in a new motor I'm killing my glow plug warmer. So I threw in one of my team matched cells, 4200mah. Everyone seems to love the idea and everyone is now using my warmer, so it dies much quicker than if I were using it alone.

The question is... how can I use my Duratrax Ice to charge just a single cell and what settings would I use? (Charging a pack I'd be charging at 4.2 amps, not sure if that would work for the single)

Next question.. should I be charging several at a time to have reserve batteries? Should I build a tray to make this happen?

If you're killing your glow igniter trying to start your new engine during break in you need to either get a better engine or retune the one you have. It shouldn't take much to get it started so you shouldn't have any problems with your glow starter battery. Oh, and regardless of what your mom said, don't share.

Do you have a charger that can charge at the voltage of a single sell? If not then your going to have to rig something up to charge and discharge enough cells to meet the minimum voltage of your charger.

The ice will charge a single cell just change the number of cells to 1 in the charge screen I charge my 10,000mah D cell for my glow igniter on my Ice with no problems.

I use old cells to do this - so it may not be something you want to do. If I'm charging my single 3800's up for my ignitor... I charge it at 6 amps and never have an issue. Though normally I wait until I have 6 dead ones... solder them up as a pack... and charge them all together - at 6 amps.

I was hoping to avoid having to build a stick pack just to charge one battery. Is there no other way?

Using your ICE charger, just select 1 cell and charge at 6amps. YOu can just tape the connectors on each end of the batterie. I did it and it is working just find.

If you are using the cell in one of those rechargeable glow ignitors and are just wanting a faster charging, you can always cut the charge cord leads and right it up to work with your charger. Much faster than wall charging.

I would look and see if your glow plug could be going bad.

Good luck, I had nothing but headaches with nitro. We only race electric now, cleaner and quiet. Wait until you get that oil on your shirt.

6 amps sounds like a lot. That cell must heat up something fierce.

I thought the rule of thumb was to just divide by 100 and that's the amps you use? In my case the cell I'm using is 4300mah, so I'd charge at 4.3 amps.

that is old school, most batteries over 3600 are now charging at 6 amps, aat leasy for racing. wierd, I can run my 1800 igniter allday on one charge. try to keep your igniter on teh charger when you are not using it, and that should help. Also, having 2 igniters helps remendously as well. A great way to get your new nitro engines started is to heat it up to between 180-200 degrees with a hair dryer or heat gun first.

you plug your glow igniter in it and it quick charges it
its nice and easy.
