Psycho, i am the proud owner of a new TA04r, what is a good starting setup for med-high traction asphalt, and should I buy any hop ups for this chassis. ?

As for the belt issue I cranked my tensioner as tight as I could get it and ran the largest pinion I could put on it and installed a silver can motor I had laying around and put the thing in a closet and ran it for 2 days on 2 volts with a fan on the motor. The belt loosened up very well and the car is very smooth it is as good as my xxx-s it is worth the effort. Then I took all the bearings out of the car and soaked them in motor spay for a while and let them dry out and lubed them with some light bearing oil they became very free. I know this is alot of work but it increases the potential of the 04r very much. I run my 04 against any other touring cars and compete very competitivly with it.

For a high bite asphalt track I would try the stock setup with some sorex tires it works fairly well you can fine tune from their........

KIng, I will try the Standard setup, I run mostly T.O. tires, so I will start with a 27 and run from there. any other needed hop-ups for this car ?

Nothing really needed. But you know you always end up buying stuff anyways. I would recomend 2 spring sets (never know when you need same color all around) A sway bar set front and rear and maybe even a shaft oneway depending on your driving style. I don't find much difference running both oneways or only one and the shaft one is cheaper and easy to swap out.

ok i just finished building the ta04-r.
i need a motor and a servo. i might just get a siver can or tamiya spot-tuned motor. as for the servo, i'm getting a basic acoms one.

i have a Q:
should the ball bearing of the belt tensioner on the upper deck be touching the long belt that connects to teh front diffs.
who tight should the tensioner be?

I would advice to put it slightly above the belt (when stationary).
If it touches the belt a litlle there should be no problem.

Yeah Thats right. when the car is brand new the front belt is usually quite tight. I set the tensioner so that it barely touches the belt and as the belt wears in and loosens adjust it accordingly.

I run the car with the tensioner completely off I never use it and haven't had any problems

Hey Steevo,

Try shaving off some parts from the A-arms. I did mine, but I have no scale so I don't know how many grams I shaved off.

Maybe you can print the attached jpg then weight for me?

I think I overdid the front A-arms. Cut too much plastic away.

Is this the hardened arms? It's really hard. Cant cut using diagonal cutting pliers. Had to drill out each section the smoothed it down with a router attachment.

ok after one run with teh tamiya siver can and 1600mah batts
the belt is now loose. should i adjust the tensioner so it makes contact with the belt?


I LOVE my ta04-R!!!!!! it's sooo smooth and faster than the tl01. with the same motor, the ta04-r is much faster.

how can i get my ta04-r to be more stable?

When the belt is fairly new I run the tensioner so it is only just touching the belt. As the belt wears in and loosens you will need to adjust the tensioner down on to the belt to avoid "skipping". This is when the belt skips teeth on the pulley under acceleration or braking. Only apply enough tension to stop the skipping.

In what way is your car unstable???

unstable at low speeds..well i have only ran it inside my house and finding that the car uncontrolable.
does anyone use spacers inside the shocks to lower ride height?
