Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Id be worried about them twisting. If that makes any sense. Plus titanium might be too light. My laydown is a pig right now (around 1560), but I have the carpet transmission, so I have the aluminum hubs, and HRC pivot. The Dirt case should be here monday, so I can put the molded pieces back on, i'm ideally going for 1525 total weight with the 21 grams I tucked under the case (like we do with my YZ-2). Car as it is right now still pretty much murders stand up cars due to corner speed with a slight compromise in top speed due to weight. It is way more stable though then the YZ-2 is.

Anyone have a rear hinge pin snap? Racing last night got .5 lap of my main. Didnt even crash or land sideways that I could tell. But it snapped on something. Wondering if this is a common issue?

I trim my rims by running them up on a drill and using a craft knife. Gives a nice clean cut.

I've tried alot of different carpet tyres over the last couple years and always end up back with the Schumacher cut stagers up front and original Mini pins on the rear with AKA closed cell inserts. They give close to the best grip but outlast anything comparable by a mile.

Loving the laydown setup and always battling at the front but struggling to get others to switch over to Losi due to the cost currently.

As for the gearbox bind (when using a gear diff) I make a paper gasket just out of regular print paper and it works a charm to create almost zero drag.

Better get a set from amain now, Jason Snyder just released his B6 laydown setup and hes using yokomo green rears, so there will be a rush on them. Luckily I already had them since I used to run Yokomo.

Lower your ride height, and possibly more rear camber. Also if you have the money or stuff, light weight battery with weight under it works wonders!

Amain has these listed for the 3.0. I have an issue with the spindles breaking, or an issue with me breaking them. I would really like to run some aluminum spindles and need to know if these are in fact for the 3.0.
