also, would i just splice into the pos and neg on the rx? the side that plugs into the receiver?

Depending on which BEC you have, and how much current it supplies, you should be able to move it from your 2wd to your 4wd.

No, you cannot splice it into the speed control cable that plugs into the receiver. If you power your receiver from both the speed control and the BEC, then you will likely damage your receiver, and possibly your servo and speed control (and transponder).

You can do this two different ways that I can think of.
a) remove the red wire from your servo plug and wire that to the BEC. This will power your servo directly from the external BEC. The ESC can still power the receiver and transponder.
b) remove the red wire from the ESC's receiver connector. This will prevent the ESC from powering the RX. Make a connector for the BEC that uses a regular RX plug, but only uses the red and black wires. Plug the BEC into any empty channel on the RX. many RXs even have a spot that is specifically for the BEC. This will power the RX, Servo, Transponder, and any extra stuff you have that would normally pull power from the RX connection.

During the build of my sc10 4x4, what are some things that I should look into changing out or modding? Basically what are some flaws that I should be aware of during the build?

Check everything in the first post. That covers 99% of the issues.

Rebuild your pre-assembled shocks and diffs....they are never 100% properly assembled. they are usually low on fluid and in many cases, the shock bladders are not properly installed, and the piston retention screws are not threadlocked.

Buy rcshox's garodiscs instead of using the stock slipper pads. If you feel the need for even MORE grab than those offer, invest in Mac the Knife's clutch basket.

Don't bother mounting the stock tires to the rims unless you're using them on asphault.

The easiest (and non permanent) solution is building a dummy plug that only connects the negative and signal wires.

Such as this one:

I bent it in a 90º shape, so it fits right under the cover and nothing gets in the way. 'Cept for the aux channel, but isn't something most of us uses daily. Transponder goes in an Y wire with the BEC lol. That is, if it uses external power at all.

The center pin was pulled from the array before being soldered, so the center wire is unconnected. It was then wrapped in heatshrink for obvious reasons.

This is how it looks once plugged in:

Besides the receiver being rather dusty (forgot to put in the silicone seal that goes with the wires), it works like a charm. It plugs rather snug into the receiver, and the ESc also plugs tightly onto the other side, ensuring an optimum electrical contact.

It's also cheap as hell (you can get a strip containing 20 of those pins at like 1.20$).

This kind of connector also works as a servo plug replacement. I use them in all my plane projects to build servo extensions

OR you simply use a little screwdriver and press the pin out of the original reciever plug and heatshrink it to keep it clean. Not a thing about it is permanent.

To each their own.

When you plug in and out the wire 10 times, the tab will fall apart.

Plus you have the hassle of that wire hanging around.

I agree, to each his own.

For my BEC installs I pick up a servo Y. 1 female for the BEC, 1 female for the servo, and male into the receiver. Pull the red wire out of the male receiver side, tape it off, and you're done. That way you can still use the castle link on the BEC and all wires are intact on the ESC connector to use the hotwire or whatever.

Like I said, if you use the screwdriver and press the tabs holding it in, you don't hurt the plug in the slightest. But for someone hulking the pin out of the plug, yes I definitely agree, go to with the dummy plug.
