ThunderbirdJunkie is itching to wheel his 4w SC10 this Friday. He feels he's stumbled upon a great setup. Excitement mounts

OK, dude. You know more about everything, because you've clearly been racing RC cars a year longer than ThunderbirdJunkie, and you have a Mustang, and you run a mill and/or lathe, and you crash less when racing toy cars.
Again, that's great that YOU like their products. Don't get so butthurt when somebody else doesn't.

Weird, I've had really good luck with Jconcetpts products, maybe it's because I rarely crash, I've been in RC since 1994 bucko, also I read every day. I just don't see the need to bash a small company when clearly their product are as good as any. Maybe it's just you. My eyes are hard to keep open bucko I'm 40 years old. Your comments always seem to come from left field. Im a 19year aero space machinist so I feel like I can judge a quality product. Oh well, go drive your thunderturd and I'll drive my mustang.

Last week I added weight to my SC10 4x4. I started with 90g (3.2oz) additional to see the results. Since I added weight, I also stiffened the suspension to make the truck handle a little flatter. My truck now has blue springs rear and yellow front. With a blue swaybar front and yellow rear (could use a stiffer rear bar- it keeps making the truck more stuck).
The truck got much easier to drive and got faster and more consistent lap time wise. So I kept adding weight until the lap times started going in the wrong direction. The number I arrived to was 4.2 total ounces.
With the extra weight the truck does not have to be "driven like a 2WD" anymore. It lands better after jumps, it rolls over obstacles better, it corners flatter. It was 1.5 seconds on average faster on a track that runs 36+ second laps.
I got really close to the track record on a night where the grip was causing everyone to go about 0.5-1 seconds slower per lap vs the last week's results. My truck was 1.5 seconds faster than the previous week. I ended up the Top Qualifier by about 35 seconds (almost a lap). I beat my best time on the track in EVERY RUN. I ran an extra lap in the 10 minute main (and these are 36+ second laps!).
While the truck is still not at Losi Weight, It comes in at 6lbs 5oz and the stability gained from the weight genuinely made my car easier to drive, much more consistent and fast. Lap in, lap out.
I know a lot of people on here think that lighter is better. That's fine. For those that are actually curious to find out what a heavier SC10 4x4 will accomplish, will actually be pleasantly surprised.

My biggest complaint about the SC10 is instability. We have a couple local tracks here... one is a very tight, small clay track and the other is large dirt track... both indoor. I do pretty well on the larger track where things are much more free flowing and contact with other cars is fairly rare. I've given up racing on the small one. I can make real fast laps on it, but it's hard to avoid contact with other racers and when I inevitably rub a pipe I go flipping into a wall. This is only made worse by the fact most people around here have the Losi. I recently went to a big race at an small/medium indoor track and had TQ, figuring this race was in the bag. In the first main I ended up in 6th or 7th. Every time I would try to pass someone we would rub and I ALWAYS got the worse end of the deal.
I know this has been said repeatedly but I can't get over how much more stable the Losi is. I've driven a couple of the local Losi trucks and don't really turn faster lap times with it but it's way easier to drive. You can make small mistakes or get bumped by another truck and it recovers quickly where the SC10 does somersaults.
All this to say I've been thinking about adding as much weight as I can cram in the chassis to see if it makes it more stable for a while now. Thanks for giving your feedback and prodding me to stop by the hobby shop to grab a few strips of lead.

Back to the SC104x4...personally, I haven't really noticed any problems with the slipper or the shocks...but I'm tempted to try the TrackStar o-rings AND the MTK clutch basket...
Has anyone else done this? Where they THOUGHT their truck was running fine, but tried the upgrades anyway? I know a lot of people who had shock binding issues fix them by replacing the rings, and a lot of people who couldn't get their slippers to work properly fixed that with the basket...but I want to hear from people who thought they didn't have a problem.
The o-rings I'll likely grab regardless...but $40 for the basket is a little much if I'm not going to see a real-world difference... I'm pretty smooth on the throttle, and don't really have any problems clearing any of the jumps at our track, so long as I am driving a clean lap... I don't need to do wheelies down the straights, and I FEEL like my truck accellerates just as quickly as my trigger finger tells it to...

I agree that sometimes people pay too much attention to which sponsored racer won what with who's product... but there are better ways of putting it.
(My experience with JConcepts...order was about $250...so not a SMALL order...but not a HUGE one either... when selecting the shipping method, it gave me 2 options...one was $45, one was $90...when selecting the $45 option and going on to the next page, it changed it to the $90 option. When I brought it to JConcepts' attention, they replied to my first email, saying that they would look into it. 3 emails and a month later, their site was still doing the same thing. In fact, I just checked, and it is still doing the same thing as it was 6 months ago...it pains me to think how many people may have ordered from them and not realized that they are paying more for shipping than they selected...)

Man I would really like to try the LRP 550 cans, I tried out both tekin sc4x's 4.5 and 5.5 and even with different gearing and boost they just couldn't compare to the power output of my castle 1410.........
So I'm debating if I should try out the LRP 550 (since I can get one for a really good deal) or wait for the tekin 4 pole motors to come out (I did pre-order one but still debating)
Also I'm going to my local indoor track, finally got my swaybars installed, just waiting on my spring sets to come in.......... Hopefully I can finally get this thing dialed in time for the next race.......

So when I saw trackstar come out with their o-rings, I had to ask myself why would they feel the need to do this? So then I took my shock off and checked it out thouroughly and noticed that the shaft movement was not very smooth or as smooth as I think it should be especially with these new x-rings that have less contact than a traditional o-ring. So I plopped down $3 and got the o-rings and in my opinion they are the best bang for the buck upgrade for this truck hands down. I believe you really don't even need the nitrate coated shafts or hard anodized bodies for the shocks to be any smoother...but they do look better than the stock blue bodies!
As for the clutch basket, I bought that mostly on ALOT of peoples word of mouth here on rctech and at West Coast raceway. My stock clutch was pretty much locked and I just didn't like the fact that I had to have it almost locked for it to work properly. I have the basket on my truck now but I haven't had a chance to run it on the track yet...I'm hoping to this or next weekend and I'm excited to feel how it works based on everyone's positive feedback.

P.S. Some jconcepts products are a little flimsy... I love there buggy wings though, only wing or jc product I use.

I started to lose hope for this thing. then i changed motors.. now I'm in love again and starting to see the light! ditched the 4.5 SC4X for a 8.5 540 D3 matched my fastest lap ever with in two qualifiers and truck is more consistent.

1. re: mustang, Ford saved $100 by not installing IRS, all my roads have left and right turns
2. o -rings my truck floats instead of bounces now
3. clutch basket , always got killed off the line by the 1/8 buggies, er 3 diff sc, now it's equal

I wonder why do people add weight to the car
Actually, what's good about it in racing terms, is that it is LIGHT!
Myself being a 1/10 4WD buggy guy since I started RC at the age of 12, I'm used to drive critical stuff, to be light on the brakes, to have a smooth throttle, and above all, to have a properly adjusted suspension setup.
You can't drive this truck like an 1/8, because IT IS NOT. If adding weight to the car (for the sole purpose of making it heavier, not to balance it out) works for you, then the problem is not the car, but your driving style.
1/8 cars like to be treated rough on the gas, and firm on the brakes, because they are heavy, wide, and ride low; and the can transfer the horsepower to the ground. But this truck is probably the one out there liking the smoothest possible driving style.
You cannot attempt to drive this as an 1/8, despite the actual dimensions of the truck.
The Losi? It's another world. That is a highroller 1/8 with a big body.
