Fuel is all about personal preference. The Cold Fusion you have is just fine but feel free to try other brands if you like. There is absolutley no need to run 40% where we race Jason. Have you ever seen me have engine issues ever? To be totally honest with you, your lack of experience with tuning a Nitro Engine is your biggest issue. I saw you struggle all last summer at the tracks in our region but you won't accept my help. I've asked you countless times to bring your engines by my house when it warms up so that I can help you and again I extend the offer. It's cool to ask questions on rctech but remember you have my 12 years experience, 5 mins away bro. Trust me I'll get your engine running good.

You don't have to take me up on my offer but remember I'm always willing to help bud.

No amount of words can do better than seeing this guy tune your engine first hand and learning from that. Learning the sights and sounds far exceed running a certain brand fuel or asking what plug to try. Let him help you.

Also make sure you have a slight bit of back and forth play on the clutch bell front to back on the bearings. The clutch bell shouldn't turn when you roll the flywheel back and forth slowly.

You can check the linkage without being at the track or even having the car running. If you hit the brake and the carb closes further, that's all you need to look for to see if that is it, takes 2 seconds.
I checked and reset my linkages. So well have to see how it does tomorow.
Everything LOOKS fine.
And my clutch looked fine since it was only one race old. Also replaced the bearings and checked my shims...

Is it true that you can put the OS speed crank in the 121vr? A guy at my local track told me that guys do it all the time.

You can but i think you've gotta dremel a fair bit of the case away for it to fit. By the way, im gunna be running Reedy engines again. . . . the OS is XZ is sooooo overrated (was a Speed). Not very smooth (compared to the Reedy) and a crap idle after a qualifier or whilst fueling. Could never EVER get it set right. Changed fuel, plugs, tanks, lines, richer settings, leaner settings etc etc etc. Had a go with my mates standard 121vr and i honestly couldn't tell the difference in top speed between them. . . and it idles all day long after a qualifier.

Thanks for the reply. I have a speed sitting around so I figured why not give it a shot. I actually love the reedy as is anyway. Great mill!

My Reedy has been running great since I bought it used and now all of a sudden it's blowing plugs after a couple tanks.

Ya'll think it's low on compression and could use a pinch?

It "supposedly" had around 3 gallons on it when I bought it used on here and I've put almost a gallon on it.

Runs awesome when running but unless I keep the glow igniter on it the engine will die at idle. Put a new plug in it and it runs perfect for a while and then does the same thing again. Won't stay running without igniter on it.
Running OS plugs. Tried P4 and P3 with same effect.

Check the silicone ramp in your crank shaft.

Am I just checking to make sure it's still there? If it's messed up who can I send it to that will redo the silicone?

I never had good luck running OS plugs in my Reedy. They would blow almost every heat. Someone mentioned to me to run a OD 97T in it and it was a completely different story. Ran for weeks and months with the same plug.

Only thing now is that OD plugs I believe may be hard to get or having quality issues. So you may want to see if you can hunt down the Reedy Plugs.

The engine still has a good pop at tdc with a plug in so I think the compression is fine. It had new bearings put in a gallon or so ago. It runs awesome when it runs but it is killing plugs. I had it do it to 2 new p3 plugs yesterday. Ran great for a few tanks then went to refire and it wouldn't idle without leaving the igniter on it. Put a new plug in and it ran great and idled great for another few tanks and then same thing.

Wonder if the P3's are too hot of a plug for the reedy and cause them to die?

That is exactly it. If you have the same trouble running P4's then try something even cooler, like an OD 97T, or something else from another manufacture. Or else you will continue to waste $10 everytime you start the engine.

Reedy R3 run pretty good on it too. I can't remember if the R4 is a cooler plug then the 3 but if it is, I'd recommend trying that.

Default performance issues

I have been reading through here and guess the recommendation I took to run the P3 plug may have not been the best decision. I am having a heck of a time getting the truck to run for more than a few minutes, mainly while idling. Are there any other suggestions of what might cause this.

Default Rebuild worth it?

Unfortunately it appears my issues were due to being <--censored--> when I bought my engine off ebay. Yes, I learned that was mistake #1. There is practically no compression left in thing after only about a half gallon of fuel.

Anyway, time to move forward. I was looking at doing a rebuild. How much life will this give back to the engine? Just trying to figure out if its worth the $75-100 or if I should just scrap the engine and buy a new one.
