What shock weight oil is everyone using?

Since I run on kind of a loamy clash, harsh track with decent jumps I'm running 35 front and 30 rear.

Too heavy?

thoughts?

Chris Jaroz feel free to comment.

I'm second guessing myself and thinking I should have put in 25 all around.

37.5 to Calm the front
25 for the rear

seems to be perfect for outdoor!

50k front
5k rear

Ok who here is running the tekin 5.5 sc4x with a mmp esc? Iono if its just me but the 5.5 just doesn't seem to put out anywhere near the same performance as my castle 3800kv did....... I am so far geared at 12/62, and all the esc settings are stock....... If theres anything I can do such as gearing and programming the esc differently to see better performance please help..........

hmmn....i am running the 1410 with MMP, love it. But i was thinking of trying the SC4X 5.5 with an RX8. The Tekin setup looked like a monster on the track the other day.....but this was in a Jammin'

Iono maybe I need to try it with the rx8 since it offers more programming..... But if theres a way to wake up this motor with the mmp I'm all ears or eyes since its an online forum lol.......

It is not just you. As of right now the Castle 1410 is pretty much on top until Tekin releases there 4 pole equivalent.

There are a lot of people that will not run anything other than a sensored motor but if sensored vs non-sensored is not a big issue to you then I would suggest sticking with the little 1410.

Big difference in rotor size and stator lamination's... The ROAR legal 550's will feel soft compared to the 1410 which has a 17.5mm rotor, to the Tekin's 12.3mm.

Thanks guys, I am going to run it at an outdoor track on Sunday....... And bring along my castle 3800kv as well........ I already feel as if the castle is going to outperform the sc4x no matter how i program my esc or gear the tekin....... So if my conclusions are right it'll be put up for sale or trade lol........

do you mean it made it less responsive in steering? thats a big variance in shock oil.

run 15/16 62 for the 1410 motors.

I run the 5.5T SC4x with 16/62 gearing on a large 8th track with long straights and big jumps. Temps still in the 150 range after 5 min heats. 165 tops after 15 min of race pace practice. Noticably faster than any of the other trucks out there...I just need to learn how to keep it shiny side up.

I'm not sure off hand if there are any 1410s out there, but there is at least one Novak 5.5, one Velineon, two or three LRP 5.5 550s and one or two 9.5-10.5 540s. Interesting to note: the guy who is consistently on top is running a 10.5 540.

What esc are you running with the motor and how do you have it programmed? I had mine geared at 16/62 but I was told with that gearing I would overheat the motor very quickly, this was on an indoor tight clay track..... So would it make a difference if i run it on an outdoor 1/8th scale size dirt track??

If the price is right on the Tekin look me up ... advancing the timing on the Tekin just a tad makes them as fast as anything I've seen. I'm not sure why it's all about the speed, being fast and on your lid the results going to be worse then slower but consistent.

I agree, that slow is fast, but honestly it doesn't even seem like I could keep up with a stock 17.5 on a straightaway..... I don't like raising the timing much only because it'll cause more chances of heat issues, especially since it gets 100+ where I live....... I will try some different timing modes but if I don't see much gains I'll go back to the 1410, I had that set to "0" timing and it still had great top end speed............And I could gear it to the moon lol.......

How are your motor temps with this setup? Are you running the overdrive pulley up front? What size is your track?

I am running a Team Epid D3 4.5 Turn 550 Motor and I have more motor than I could ever put down. Very happy with the power and feel no need for more. I am geared at a 62/15 and may go to a 16 if I can keep the temps down. I have found that you need to drop 1-2 teeth on the pinion if you are running the front overdrive pulley. I would think you would gear a 5.5 at least a 62/15 and that should wake it up, I would not be suprised if you ended up at a 16 or 17 depending on track size.
