Is it OK to use my old timed charger?
I turn the rate way down, it's like at .5.
Or would I be better of buying a wall charger?
I don't want to screw anything up.

Yes, it should be ok to use the timer charger.

Don't go above 1A!

It would be easier to get the wall charger as it would be much smaller to carry around.
