Ok, some more tire testing tonight--
Kevin K ran both pro compound and D compound X patterns. The D compound tires worked almost as well as the pro tire, but the pro tire had more steering. That being said, when the traction comes up, you might actually want to be on D tires.

For those wanting a mounted tire, the D compound premount Xpatterns may be what you are looking for.

Also, the integy C22 pro street max was doing similar lap times to the X patterns, and will likely be good as traction comes up. I had them mounted on 26mm rims, so they are stretched a bit. The price is right...

does the track have either of these in stock?

what inserts seem to work?

How do they compare to a vintage HPI tire? (USVTA front)

Will you allow mixing 26mm tires on 24 mm rims and vise'verse?

inquiring minds want to know........

Marty....I think Eric still had some instock...if not I would think he will be ordering some in for the weekend.

I ran the HPI X-patterns in the D compound and they feel just like Vintage tires...they are the same compound according to HPI. I ran the stock inserts that come with the tires. The pro comp has more steering or traction but they might be too much when the traction is high.

Yes you can mix tires and rims from 24mm to 26mm. A 26mm tire on a 24mm rim isnt a good idea unless you want a motorcycle style tire......a 24mm tire on a 26mm rim is a better idea as it will make the tire lower profile. But there isnt too many 24mm tires.

Thanks again Rob.

Was there any real differance between the VTA tires and X patterns performance wise. I have a ton of VTA tires, if I could use those that would help tremendously.

One more question Rob. Will there be concourse judging like in the past for TA for each class at the Nats?

tanks...

Marty,
I'm not sure on VTA fronts vs. the D compound X patterns...Maybe Kevin has something to add.

There will be a concours...prepare your dioramas now!!

Some things to remember for the USGT class

Wings
you may use an ABS plastic molded wing like Tamiya and Hpi sell, or you may use the lexan wing that comes on the car but wing height is restricted to 10mm height for LEXAN WINGS ONLY. The molded wings are not restricted.

ESC You may use any of the USVTA listed escs or an esc in ROAR approved spec mode

Motor Any ROAR 21.5 motor

Bodies No current ROAR T2 sedan bodies, and for that matter, no Stratuses, Alfas, Accords, etc., that have fallen off the list. GT, DTM, LeMans 2 door type bodies please--scale look being most important. 4 doors are ok too if they are not "race" sedan bodies. No trucks!

Marty.....another racer ran with VTA fronts all the way around and he said the car worked just fine with them on there. I dont have any VTA tires left to try this out or else I would. I would guess that they would work just as good as the d-comp tires from HPI because they are all the same compound.

Hey guys... do you guys normally use the D compounds or the pro compound for usgt? I have got a set of D compounds and I guess I am still contemplating on getting a set of pro compound...that is if i ever get my hands onto one... and I guess the last option is the belted ones but those are not allowed right?

Kelvin....you can use either the pro or d compound. The pro comp is a softer comp of the two....its a personal choice one isnt better then the other on carpet. Yes no belted tires.

I did run a set of the X2, and they were not real good on carpet.
