Default Finally got my rc8be working!!!

So I bought just the kit on Jan. 3rd. and assembled it in 4 days. After assembling it, I been so anxious to get everything else (servo, transmitter, motor/esc, lipo batteries).

But before that I got side tracked and bought an Iwata airbrush (I never airbrushed in my life!!!) so I can put true flames on the lexan rc8 body. That failed but I still made use of the airbrush and painted it a color changing scheme of purple/gold/teal paint from Spaz Stix. It looks awesome btw. But it wouldve been nice with some true flame effects along with it.

2 weeks ago I got back on track and bought the servo and transmitter at the same time. I went by a suggestion someone told me and got the hitech 7955 steering servo. The guy told me "you'll never ever have to worry about servo failure. Pretty much bomb proof. That's it." He also recommended any of the Spektrum line of radios. He mentioned using the DX2S. And guess what, I got that too.

So for the days after getting the servo and the radio, I been researching on what motor to get. Mamba Monster or a Tekin. I initially wanted to go with the Tekin in either the 2650kv or the 2250kv. But after doing some research and speaking to hobby stores staff, It seems they all prefer the Mamba Monster. So Mamba Monster it is.

Now all I was left to make a decision on was whether to get the 2650kv or the 2200kv. I want my rc8be to be screaming fast so the 2650kv seemed to be the choice for top end. Which ever I chose, I would still have to wait a few months to actually have the funds to burn in getting it. Damn thing cost $300!!. But then it all changed yesterday. My wonderful girlfriend surprised me and offered to get my motor. So i called all over town and only one store within driving distance had one in stock but it was the 2200kv. Sold!!! I don't care about top end. I just want the damn thing to work! So she ended up spending just over $600 cause she included 2 2s lipo batteries. YES!!!

So today I got it all set up and dialed in and man...its so great to hear it run. After running it up and down the street I already grinded down the spur gear. bummer but its ok, im gonna replace that anyways.

So there you have it! I will post pictures when i get back.

The spur gear should last a little longer then that, make sure you set your mesh correctly and it should last for months.

I was thinking the same thing. The spur should last a very long time. If you've already stripped it, the mesh was either incorrect or the motor mounting screws were loose.

Good choice going with the 2200 over the 2650. That 2650 would have been way too much and would have been a pain to gear. (Assuming you're running a 4S setup)

You take $100 off of a brand new kit that's never been ran and people still want more.
Ebay? I sold my XXX-CR on ebay for 225.00. Know what I paid in fees? 34.00. yeah... They have shot up. You're paying like 10-12% on the final sale price of your item plus listing fees. It has become quite ridiculous. Most are trying to offset the fees by raising the price of shipping.

Why does ebay deserve 10% of the item I'm selling? 10%????? Isn't my listing fees enough???? If you do the math on my particular sale my listing fees were roughly 10 bucks. And I didn't get anything fancy! Just a 10 day auction, a bold heading, only put on the free pictures, and had a thumb nail picture available. That's it.

Ebay has become greedy. I'll never sell there again. And shopping there is just as worthless because everything seems to now be retailers and quite overpriced.

If I were you I would try Craigs list if you don't want to go with RC Tech. Ebay is just a waste in my opinion.

That is true, I think it cost me about $50 in fees last summer when I sold my iPad. I mean between eBay fees and Paypal fees, its a little crazy. Ill make sure I keep Craigs list in mind too. I keep forgetting about that.

Good rule of thumb we used to use on the nitro meshing, was to rip off a strip of paper and feed it though. Thats about the thickness you want away from the gears. You dont want them binding. These spur gears are made to last a few race seasons, and yes, Im talking about the plastic ones. You definitely have the mesh set wrong.

Oldest trick in the book and the most accurate way of checking mesh

Just make sure you check mesh all the way around the spur gear. I haven't had an issue with the RC8Be, but on my kiddo's MERV, if you set the mesh on one section of the spur, it can get tight in another area. The spurs are not totally round. I've just learned to check mesh for one full rotation of the spur.

+1. i always rotate the spur all the way around checking the tolerance 4 or 5 times.

Pardon my ignorance, but WTF is that? I'm assuming some type of computer?

Also, the more I look, the more I like the TC6. Surely Tower will have it EasyPay eligible once it's in stock.

Default Spare Parts

A few pages back I asked about what kinds of parts to have available with you at the track for high failure rate components. This is the list (now with part numbers)

Spare Parts List:
a-arms - 89025 – Front / 89027 - Rear
Caster blocks - 89030
rod ends - all of them - 89074 / 89076 / 89078
caster angle bushings - 89032
CVs all the way around - 89106 Center CVA Rebuild set
Gearboxes - 89017
center bulkheads - 89019
steering block bushings - 89029
bearings - 25236
Servo saver - Already in Stock
Screws (all of them) - RC Screwz.com – Ordered
Turnbuckles - 89267 / 89269
hinge pins - 89466 – Little pricy, necessary??
Shock spring cups - 89354
extra wing mount - 89021
extra wing - 89154
diff housings and gaskets - MUGEN Gaskets in possession
hinge pin bushings - 89039

servo - Will consider a spare in future
ESC - Will consider a spare in future

Diffs (Front / Rear / Center - F/R- 89112 – Ctr 89111
(Diff’s are a 75.00 expense)

Ok, there you have it. Spares to have at the track of high failure rate.

Question:
Is everything on this list critical to have for high failure rate items? If not, what in this list can be shaved down? Anything you would add?

$131.49 For everything listed (Not including a spare servo, ESC, or the Front/Rear/Center Diffs)

I'd like to shave this price tag somewhat, but if this is what's needed, it's what's needed..... I'd rather have it available than not.
