Yeah, sorry about that. When you said beginner I was thinking that you were starting from scratch.
The RC8Be uses metric hardware.
I'm probably the wrong person to ask about option and spare parts.
I'd at least buy a diff o-ring package, as the kits are still coming with the old black inner diff o-rings (new o-ring packages use the clear o-rings) and the AE 10x1.1 tapered shock pistons. Probably a selection of shock oil and diff oil since the kit only comes with 25W shock oil and 5k diff oil.
I'd also buy a spare shock rebuild set, and another set of diff o-rings so you have them handy when the shocks and diffs need to be rebuilt. Also, if you want to use some of the setups that have been posted, you might have to get some springs, as the kit only comes with bronze front and black rear springs. Also, IIRC, it only comes with silver sway bars front and rear.

Couldn't you prompt number of spare parts about you have told ?
Also , maybe I need front, rear arms, knuckles, hubs ?? What from this break more often?

I am also one of the people who bought my RC8BE from Tower when it was $419.99. I sent an email to Tower telling them I place my order about a week ago and now they are selling the kit for $399.99. Within 10 minutes I got an email saying $20 had been credited back to my card. That is service!

I found just:
teamassociated.com/parts/details/89352 - shock rebuild kit.
So, the difference between stock piston and the AE 10x1.1(89456) really exsist or not ? And whic springs you recommend ? From AE or other (Losi for example) ?

The difference in the tapered pistons is in how the oil is distrubed when the shock travels. Personally I think the 10x1.1's or 8x1.3's are well worth having.
For shock springs I use the AE springs (bought the kit) or the big bore yellow OFNA springs. The losi springs are a different length (shorter I think) so you'll have to use more than one collar.

Here's a little tech for the thread.
Sanded diff cup on right, unmodified on left (used 400 grit to start, then finished up with 600):

Comparison of Mugen diff gaskets and AE. I'm planning to use Mugen from here forward as the Mugen feels like it's made out of gasket material instead of paper. They appear to be very, very close to the same dimensions, except the Mugen gaskets are about 0.005" thicker. The diff shims are about the same thickness, so I'm going to try adding an additional shim on the spur gear side. As you probably figured out, the Mugen gasket is the blue one.

EDIT: Tried the additional shim. The diff felt a little more "notchy" so I removed it.
More to come.

Nice, let us know how it goes.
I just got my batteries and charger ordered so when I go to the track today. It's going to pain me just to be watching. I just wish it wasn't going to be a high of 47 today. This is California for chrissakes!!
Here's a vid from last weekend. Sorry it's shot with my cell phone.

Tried the extra shim on the spur side. The diff felt more "notchy" (for lack of a better term), so I took it out. Letting the diff fluid settle right now, then finish up the diff assembly. Mugen gasket fit like it was an OEM piece!
Gregg, Cali must be nirvana or something. I don't know how you guys (Californians) live out there unless you're pulling down $1 Mil a year!!! Okay, maybe not $1 Mil, but I certainly wouldn't live there even if it doubled my salary!
BTW, nice vid! Looks like a fun track.

And yes, the track isn't bad at all. Need to head over to Union City which is where they had the ROAR nats last year. Huge track. It's about the same distance. But it being outdoor. They aren't racing on it much in the winter time.
And I'm thinking with your Mugen gasket. It probably needs one more shim. Those shims are paper thin and you just added about 2 shims thickness. It might turn fine by hand, but under power it may jump the gears. Just a guess.

Thumbs up to Tower!
